Don't poison your soul with hate. It's too huge of a burden to carry. Learn to love & appreciate. It'll make you a better & happier person inshaAllah! - Dr.bilal Philip

One of my favorite shopping  is buying Pattern Kits. I know it is expensive but it is one way for me to learn about materials and also learn about new technique. This year  I bought a few and finished 2 of them.  Yes it is a challenge when the kits are not in English. Sometimes even the google translate is a bit difficult to understand. Especially if the kits are written in Kanji!

I usually will open the pattern pieces and scan each sentences/word onto google translate and try to make sense of it! Then, trying to figure out the pictures instructions in a single piece of paper. So, basic bag making or sewing and diagrams. The kits usually come with a very simple basic diagrams and knowledge is important if you're considering to buy kits. But once you figured it out, everything else is easy!

I started this pouch a few days ago from the Kit I bought in the Quilt Show. The kit includes fabrics, binding strip and zippers. This is the first time I tried installing the zipper by hand!! and to tell you the truth I LOVE it.

By the way, here I didn't use the fabrics etc from the kit. Since this is my first trial, I used fabrics etc from my stash. Maybe I should have used polkadots lining instead of the handloom linen fabric.

I kinda love this pouch. Maybe can add this kind of pouch in the shop later on. What do you think?

Thank you for stopping by!

Have a nice weekends!

Backpack and Pencil Pouches

When you have nephew who goes to play school, it is mandatory to make him a backpack! Naah...actually this backpack is high on my to do list.

The pattern is from one of my Japanese book and even though I cannot read Kanji or even hiragana katakana, but somehow I can follow the illustrations. There is one front pocket that close with snap button and I added one zipper pocket inside.

The backpack is quite spacious to carry the essential stuff like  toys, a book, small water bottle and maybe a pair of change clothes.

And of course I have to make a matching pencil case for him. I made 2 cases and one is for my other nephew. He loves Japanese manga and her mom told me to make anything with Japan on it.

So I make one with Shinkasen print fabric. I hope he will like it. The pencil pouch pattern is from Sue Overy on YouTube. There is a link to the main pattern on her channel.

My youngest sister told me that his son loved the bag! The moment he received the bag, he kept on wearing it! How cute is that!!

And this pic made my day!! The bag is just perfect for preschoolers!!

What do you think?

Thank you for stopping by!

Have a nice day ^^

Small Messenger Bags

I love these two mini messenger bags I made last month. I already cut interfacings to make a couple more.

Map Travel Sling Bag

The pattern is The Lilac Mini Messenger from Bluecalla Patterns. It's a free pattern! The pattern is easy to follow and came together quite quickly.

Disney Crossbody Purse

It's my new fave! I made the map sling bag  first and made it according to the pattern. It has one interior slip pocket which is pretty handy to phone or passports and the main compartment to keep wallet and other stuff.

The exterior zipper pocket at the back is big enough to keep your smartphone.

The second one is this Disney theme crossbody bag. Here, instead of slip pocket, I decided to add zipper pocket in the front. I find the pocket is very handy because it's like an additional compartment.

I can really fit in my wallet, small change purse, passport, 2 phones, power banks & charger cable.

This is one bag that even though it's small but it packs quite a lot! The bags are padded so you can use it as camera bag as well.

Both the bags are now available for custom order in my Etsy Shop

Bag stats:

Size : 8.5" H x 9" W x 2" D
Materials:

Misuyabari Handmade Needle Shop - Kyoto

If you've been to Kyoto the chance is you always want to go back. Well at least for me. There so many things to explore and it sort of easier to base in Kyoto and visiting nearby places and if you have JR Pass it will be very useful.

From The top of Kyoto Station
This time we stayed in Smile Hotel Shijo. The hotel location is very strategic with easy access to subway and bus. The day we arrived, we took a local subway from Kyoto Station which turned out rather confusing. The next day we decided to take the bus and it was much easier because the bus stop is just a few feet away from the hotel. Well, it's always wise to explore your option.

Love this old style shop.
Yesterday I was watching J-Dorama A Sharply Graceful Girl  and the location is based in Kyoto. In one of the scene it is mentioned that Kyoto street is rather confusing for outsider. And yes it is! Especially in and around the market. One day we wanted to go to the handmade needle shop Misuyabari. The shop is high on our list since we missed it last time.

I think this is the market entrance to Misuyabari Shop
Thank God for the blog post from Okan Arts we finally made it there, after an hour or so walking. Okan Arts post gave photo guide how to find the shop, but it's still very tricky. Since the shopping arcades all looked very similar.

We looked the pictures from Okan Arts very closely to find more details and finally with the help of Google map and the blog we found it! The shop was almost close by then but the owner is very nice and cheerful. We brought home a few needles too!

Here are a few pictures

Minimalist Wallets

India

It's almost end of April. So many things going on in the last 3 weeks or so. For one, my younger son was hospitalized for typhoid. In the beginning the doctor suspected to be dengue, but Alhamdulillah it was ruled out the next day after the second blood test. And then the LS General election which happened on 18th and 23rd. Of course I don't have a voting rights but still the excitement caught on. I mostly followed the news on twitter. I also followed the Indonesian Election news which was quite "entertaining". I don't usually follow political news, but then nowadays being ignorant is no longer cool, right?! Anyway, I hope you're all made a smart choice and who ever win will fight for the people!

Floral Handloom Wallet

On creative side, in between completing custom orders, I made a few wallets for the shop. I really this simple slim wallet. I don't carry a lot of cards besides debit card, credit card and ID Card. Most of the shops I frequented usually have the membership record by phone number, so we don't necessarily have to present the cards. I love this system!

In the above wallet, I combined linen and handloom fabric because it matched nicely! Handloom is one fabric I always love and frequently buy. I love handloom tunics/dress too.

Ellie Bifold Wallet

Next one, I made this super cute ellie wallet! As usual I tidy up my stash from time to time whenever I feel uninspired and I found this print. I thought of combine it with green one but I love the grey star fabric too.

Maybe next time I can make it with a green combo? What do you think?
And then I saw this cute snoopy fabric in my stash and of course I had to make another wallet!

Snoopy Wallet

Now all the wallets are listed in my Etsy shop and they are all Ready to Ship. And all handmades are Free Worldwide Shipping.

Wallet stats:

Dimension: 4.5" W x 8" H
6 card slots
2 slip pockets
1 zipper pocket
Fully interfaced and padded
Hand sewn binding for perfect finish
Close with Snap Button

Thank you for stopping by. I'd better go and finish a couple more of family passport wallet orders now and I hope you already checked the recent tutorial about installing all around zipper on a wallet!

Until then,

Happy Sewing

Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt

I started this scrappy log cabin quilt last year after I organized my scraps in buckets. When this does not really make a dent to my scrap baskets but I'm super thrilled to finished this one just before the trip to Japan last January. My friend and me, we decided to take at least one quilt this time too. Last year I took the small log cabin quilt :D

Last January I only had 6 blocks completed. The block size is approx 12 x 12 inches and totally made from scraps.

This was my "just having fun" kind of quilt. I cut the scraps into 1.5" strips and using sew and cut method. Almost like quilt as you go method without the quilting part.

The fabrics were of all kind of weight, as long as the color match! I did not follow any rule and I kind of loving this process.

I pieced and quilted using my Jack sewing machine. I decided to just do wonky lines quilting ehmm it's called organic lines, right? And I loved the result! and so are my family and friends :D

And here's my quilt hanging on the tree trunk at Inokashira Park! It was a nice sunny day when we decided to take the quilts out and find a good place to take photos :D. Yeah, we're crazy like that! Many morning walkers were glancing/looking and smile at us :D .

And another shot at Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
I still have a lot of scraps. I've cut a few in different sizes and have a couple of ideas. Let's see I hope I can create something bigger than this scrappy log cabin!
Thank you for stopping by & spend time reading my blog!

have a nice day!

Tokyo International Quilt Show 2019

The Tokyo International Quilt Show held annually at Tokyo Dome. It needs no introductions. Last January, I've been very lucky to be able to go and see for the 3rd time  and it still never failed to amaze me. The quilts and the people.

We were lucky to be given free opening ceremony tickets (read in my previous post) and we were there before 9 AM on the opening day! We stayed in Mystays Hotel Higashi Ikebukuro which has easy access to Tokyo Dome. From the hotel, you can take either JR line from Otsuka Station to Suidobashi Station or Subway Marunouchi Line from Shin Otsuka Station to Korakuen Station (This is the fastest!) and great view too.

It was really amazing experience since  we could see all the displayed quilts before the crowds entered.

look at those bags!!

Without further ado, here are few of my faves! You can see more pictures HERE

Main display featuring Monet's Garden - my fave!
The Monet's Garden was simply marvelous! The artist's interpretation from the real Monet's garden was simply amazing!

2 happy girls outside the Tokyo Dome :D

Once inside the Dome, we were lost in the quilt wonderland! Before we knew it, it was dark and time to head out with a box full of fabrics & books and head full of ideas. The quilts, the shopping, the generous people! Like someone wrote on her blog, going to Tokyo Quilt Festival was like watching Olympic . Absolutely right! Quilt Olympic that is!
