Week 4 of January

I bought  this 200 blocks book last year and this is one block I bookmarked. 

I really love this one

I esp. love the tiny star in the middle.

Let see how I will progress here. This is going to be my "one block at a time" project. Like maybe 3 or 4 blocks in a month or maybe less.

Aaaand I finally finished the TOP of this quilt. Started last year but somehow never got around to join the blocks.

it will be finish at 40" x 50" 

I am still thinking what to put at the back, maybe a grey chevron will look good. 

and another quilt is basted. Plan to do the quilting next week after finish my custom orders

He is taller than me now

and best part is  now we can sing Bryan Adams and GnR songs together

though I am still trying to convert him to Bon Jovi <3

Another thing I did was I started doing  machine embroidery. 

I have few orders where customers want their wallet personalized and  I thought might as well I make a good use of my machine :D

I am still trying to figure out how to make it work with rayon thread. This husqvarna viking Topaz 20 seems to hate rayon thread :( . I am asking in few of my quilting groups and hopefully one or two tricks will help me ^^. 

The bigger patches are  for custom quilt I am making for our high school reunion next summer. Yeah yeah...I am adding another WIP in my list. I haven't decided on the design as yet, but I think it's going to be a traditional blocks.

and I am also playing with leftover jelly rolls cos I want to try one poly batting sent by one supplier. I am not quite happy with the batting tho. I am still looking for a better one.

Oh My Star

I always love star blocks and when I saw Jera of Quilting in The Rain "Summer Mini Star" quilt I just went ahead and bought the pattern

one year ago...

and it's super easy to do

I've done it in a day...well if you count the hours that I am working on it ;-)

here is the detail of the FMQ, isn't that pretty??

Please don't mind if I can't stop being narcissistic here 

I've been trying FMQ in my HV Designer Topaz 20 which is I must admit it was rather bumpy journey. I read and watched a bunch of tutorials, fiddle with the settings, etc but it was not working as smooth as my  humble Usha Stitch Queen. 

and this one I did with Rayon thread in butter yellow color. It's so gorgeous in person. 

HV DT 20 in my opinion is good as embroidery machine or general sewing. But not for quilting. This is from my personal experiences. 

At the back, I decided to go with this yellow and green geometric print from my Etsy Fabric Shop. I wanted something bright.

And the binding is dark grey polkadots. 

For now, it's hanging prettily above my sewing machine. 

It's my inspiration as I can finish my first quilt of the year.

To tell you the truth, I was almost giving up on FMQ, until the other day. I was trying to tell my self that FMQ is not everyone's cup of tea.

well, if you get the right machine, then  why not?? It's easy it's fun. 

Sometimes something simple is all you need!

It's better be late than never

When my bff was having her first baby I told her that I'll make a baby quilt for her. Well, finally I did it...2.5 years later @_@ 

Here it is :

that was the sons doing when they were on crafty mood. 

Actually I planned a different quilt and then decided to change it midway using completely different fabrics. This one sort of grow from 40" x 40" to 48" x 60" which is - I think - its great for 2 years old. 

I used this soft minty green fabric at the back. One of the reason why it took so long  was looking for the perfect backing. So, it was after my Shillong visit last April that I got this fabric. See, I truly believed that everything happens at its own time and place ;) 

 

I decided to do straight line quilting using mercerised variegated cotton but it kept breaking. It turned out the thread was old (2009 made) which I didn't check. Lesson learnt.  So, after struggling for few lines I decided to change the thread. Too bad, cos I love the color so much. Well, its not meant to be. 

Another thing was I NEED walking foot. I'm not (yet) comfortable with FMQ -ing big quilt and I love straight line quilting after browsing Pinterest. There's just so much you can do with straight line quilting. HERE is one that I love. And to do that I need the right tool. I'll be getting one soon, thanks to my dear friend who will get it for me ...yay!!  

It's packed and ready to send by Monday.

Another Quilt tops finish

How many quilt top do you have?

I seem to collect a lot of them recently v_v

These two I recently finished/

This grey cat in the road block *as my son named it* is done at 40x40"

and I am still wondering how to quilt it.

Maybe a dense straight line or wonky line

or using my fave serpentine stitch

doing the top is my fave part of quilting

I used my own pattern for this using excel sheet -___-

The trial block was not as how I pictured it in my head

so I made it into cushion cover for a swap

and after alteration I'm happy with this one.

I love TATW block! and one if my IG friend, Laurie Meyers, she made beautiful TATW quilt which really inspire me!

 Those are my quilty stories for the past 2 weeks. Next week will be a hectic one for me as I have to at least finish 75% of my quilt for the Husqvarna Viking India Online Quilt competition *sigh*. 

It's been quite a task since I can't show to anyone about it. Ha ha !! So, I just want to get it done fast and hopefully it will turn out as I picture it in my head!!

Another UFO completed

I need to stock up more mini quilts, I told DH the other day.

I have few mini quilt top ready to quilt but always get distracted by so many other things. Sometimes I wish I had 5 pair of hands :D

I am not feeling too well since Saturday but my mind and hand need to keep doing something. Since I have completed the quilting and attach the binding last Friday, I only need to hand stitch the binding. So, instead of whining away, I put on my my fave drama and sewing away.

you know, not everyday I get  a matching backing fabric and I was ecstatic when I saw this green n orange cotton.

 Well, I've been playing with this pinwheel for awhile {last November or December} and just could not decide the backing. I think the saying it's true "everything happen at it's own time and place" ^_^

It's a good feeling to complete something!

It's February already

 I decided to participate in  Husqvarna Viking India 2015 Quilt competition and I'm currently working on it. It's a slow progress though and no, I can't show my WIP in any online media. Yes, that's part of the rules! And me being an Instagram addict, I can only click pics and saved them in my computer *sigh* 

Wish me luck folks!! I need lots of them ^_*. 

So, how's your January going?

Mine has been quite good. Thought I don't finish any major projects as yet, but slowly I'm trying to empty my UFO bins {I started few months back} and I feel good inside. 

And while I'm watching my fave Kdrama, I made few of this fabric flowers from left over bindings. I love fabric flowers and I have quite few brooches and hair pin. I kept them ready as a gift ^_^. 

I realized that everyone - yes, everyone- love handmade gift! 

 I completed this Family Passport Wallet for my customer's in my Etsy Shop

I went for thread shopping and look what I got!!

3 boxes of thread of total 60 rolls for less than $3 

and speaking of UFO, here's few coasters I made from my orphan blocks!

Finally! the super cute baby Anya with my quilt *feeling proud* 

Oh I can go on about this cutie pie, I keep asking Norah to send me her pics cos she's so adorable

she's an Indian-Chinese baby and she's almost a month old

but she can make all kind of cute expressions!

I wish December come quickly, I really want to hold this newest member of our big Indian family!

Baby Quilt and Cushion Covers

Since last 2 months I keep a "to-do-list" in my phone using Google Keep apps. Well, so far it works. I keep a weekly list for things I want to complete. It helps me keeping track of certain things. And it feels good when I can complete one task, whether it's cleaning up my cupboards or finishing my UFOs project.

Here are few stuff I completed the last few weeks :

I sign up for #Rangde cushion cover swap in Desi Quilters and  wrote simple tutorial in my Facebook Page . I realized many people are more comfortable with facebook. So, this year, I will try to share mini tutorial here as well as in my Facebook Page

oh and I did get my mugrug swap from Tina 

and my #sewyourstash2015 projects:

fabric cover bin. I found good tutorial on youtube . basically you make cover for the outside and make a liner for inside of the box. it's removable cover. 

and I made this to store my linen fabrics 

I'm doing few more #ufo projects and will write more later
