First time mending a quilt

mending a quilt

I mend a quilt! This is the first time for me. I watched a lot of quilt mending videos and I particularly love the visible mending one. This quilt was on my son's bed and last week  I took it out for washing when I noticed there's a small tear.

After inspecting it for a little while, I then re-attached the border first, where the stitches came off using a slip stitch. I took a video below while I was working on it.

I used a yellow dyed fabric from my scrap bins. I tried searching for the same fabric but could not find it. And it was a pretty humid day, so I did not want to waste my energy looking for a small scrap piece.

The tear was only on the top of the quilt. So while mending it, I did not sew all the way through the backing. Now I am thinking, maybe I should? What is your opinion?

Quilt mending

After washing it, I noticed there are a few places where the stitched came off, so I will mend those in the next week. This was a quilt made from quilt bee blocks, some blocks are sewn with longer stitch lengths. I suppose that's why the seam easily breaks.

I am pretty happy with the result, though! At least for now it will do. If you watch the video, please let me know what you think and what I should keep in mind while mending a quilt.

Indian block print fabrics

And I have some exciting news! As I wrote a couple of months back regarding my fabric shop, I am happy to announce that I am back! I have been taking stocks of what I have and have been busy creating exciting one-of-a-kind fabric bundles. Also, I am able to find a few resources so that I can provide a more competitive price and better service. So more pretty Indian fabrics are coming to the store soon!
For international orders, shipping on ETSY is only via FedEx at the moment. I offer flat rate shipping for now.

Here are a few that are already in the stores:

Cutting fabrics and making bundles always boost my sewing mojo. I have a couple of projects in mind, some Kawandi projects and also 2 hand quilting projects. I think I will make a couple of videos as I am working on it. I started this one but I think I will re-do the quilting. Maybe doing Kantha style. Let's see.

That's all for today. Thank you for stopping by!

Happy Sewing!

More Family Passport Holders

Guwahati, Assam, India
Hello again,

I finally finished this Disney theme Family passport holder for 4. I started the wallet last Sunday. I am currently taking medicine for my chronic allergy which make me very drowsy especially during the morning hours.

This Paris theme is another family passport holder I finished last Sunday. It went out for delivery on Monday but turned out there was a Bharat Bandh. That is a national strike called by the opposition party.

This one is for 6 passport. I found the fabric during my konmari cleaning session and so happy to find it. I thought I didn't have more of the fabric.

I think even fabric, every piece of them has their own destiny! I made similar passport holder earlier but I this time I used a different fabric combo. I always try to make every wallet different, so everyone will get special one!

Both the passport holder using the same pattern. I wrote a Tutorial on how to adjust the pattern to make 4 passport holder

I hope the recipient will be happy and love the passport holder!

Thank you for stopping by!

Happy Crafting

Sunday Stash 10 - Indigo Fabrics

Hello,

Indigo is everywhere! Whatever you make, it will look stunning, from dresses to bags, etc.

Small Floral Block Print Cotton

I recently added a couple of Indigo blue fabrics in my ETSY SHOP and CHEZVIES SHOP (India only). The indigo based with small floral above will be prefect for dresses or even a pouch or a quilt.

I really love this white based with big floral. It is a soft cotton which I think would be great to make a wholecloth quilt or a pillow cover.

White Based Indigo Floral

Another fave is this small print floral. It's block print linen fabric. I made a passport holder for order with the same fabric.

Batik Passport Holder

Hello,

I finished this family passport holder last month. It was a custom order and she wanted it in Batik. Off course I was delighted. I've kept several bundle of bali batiks that I am selling in the shops for my future project.

Don't you love those bundles?

The new bundles are all so pretty and so inspiring. She chose one from the green bundle in my Fabric Shop and I really enjoyed creating this Family Passport Wallet

I decided to combine it with a matching green poplin and going with softer color on the inside. It matched beautifully. I hope she will love it.

For this wallet, she chose to add long zipper on one side and 2 clear pocket. Instead of the small zipper pocket like in the original pattern.
I've been planning to make tutorial on the long zipper pocket, but still have not got the time to do it. Insha Allah when I make the next wallet, I will take  proper pictures.

Until then,

Happy Sewing

Wallet Pouch Story

Hello,

I have not done any sewing since I came back from my trip to Delhi last week. I have not been well these last few days due to my usual winter rash problem and had a diarrhea for a few days. My friend, mbak Sari in Japan who owned the pretty Kanzashi shop in Etsy, told me that during winter it's better to consume food that grow under the ground. Well, I am not a fan of potato, but upon reading her suggestion, suddenly I was craving for boiled potato and have been eating potato for the last few days. I feel much better today and hopefully tomorrow I can finish my custom order due on Monday.

Anyway, I think have not shared this wallet pouch I made in October. I needed a pouch-cum-wallet which can fit it my phone, a couple of cards and a zipper compartments for cash/change.

This is my 5th wallet that turned out perfectly. There was a few ideas I tried with the previous wallets for the card slots but didn't work out as I would like it to be. Esp. the card slots.

But I love the flower print. It's so feminine :)

My first idea is to use wristlet that the picture above. But on second thought, the detachable one would be better.

Then decided how many cards should I incorporated. Some people carry a few cards but some carry many. So, I thought 6 cards should be good enough. I am quite minimalist, I carry 2 cards and 4 cards when I travel. We don't have so many shops which offer membership cards here, and if they do, it is enough to tell them my phone number to avail the points.

Anchor Wallet Pouch

The blue anchor and the orange patchwork one are made slightly bigger than the floral one. As I was working on these wallets, I thought this will be a good travel wallet too. Especially for those who loves practicality and often going for solo trip.

and if one want to go for a quick coffee with friends, a detachable medium short strap can always be added.

Patchwork Wallet Pouch
I am making the pattern for this Wallet Pouch, but still finalizing for a few details and need to make a couple more to try out which material combination and technique that will work best/easiest even for beginner sewist. I love wallet that is light and sturdy but easy to make.  What about you?

Until then,

Happy Sewing!

Pre-cut Indian Cotton Fabrics

Guwahati, Assam, India
Hello again,

I am still destashing fabrics and make them into fun and unique fat quarter bundles. I cut quite a lot but have not got time to create all. I got a few bundles which are ready to list.

Indian fabrics have such an interesting prints and unimaginable range of colors, that sometimes you don't need other colors or prints to compliment them.

Pink Purple Fat Quarter Bundle
Although nowadays, many novelty prints also make an appearance in Indian block print fabric, I personally still prefer the classic timeless prints.

Like this Indigo Fabric.

Indigo Block Print Cotton
Or these lavender pink fat quarter bundle. This kind of prints (with paisley design) usually will always be available. In India, during the summer month, people prefer white of or off-white based cotton fabric.

Lavender Pink Paisley & Flower Prints

I am making a few pouches and passport sleeve from some of these pre-cut fabrics. They are just super fun and fast!

Here is one of them. Isn't that cool? It's totally one of a kind!!

Aqua Green Passport Cover
Come to think of it, there are just so many things you can make from these pre-cut fabrics. I love buying pre-cuts whenever I go. With pre-cut fabrics, you can have more time to sew rather than to choose fabric combination, right?

So, what are you making this week?

Thank you for stopping by,

Until then,

Small Passport and Card Holder

Hello,

Just a quick post. I've been busy writing the instructions for my next wallet pattern and able to finish these 3 wallets in 2 days! That was a record. What's the secret? Uninstall Facebook app from my phone! Yes, that is the secret! I found I spent too much time just browsing, most of the time aimlessly, on Facebook and less sewing. The "just 5 minutes" can stretch to 2 hours or more. I feel I need to be more focus on getting works done then just admiring other people works!

Anyway, the pattern is coming along very nicely, thank you for my dear friends who came forward to ask about my next pattern. I feel so blessed. Sometimes, I think it's a way of God to nudge me, to remind me that I have more important things to do then just snooping around on Facebook LOL. I do need that big nudge. So thank you once again! #hugs (you know who you are)!

So here are my wallets, now they are available on ETSY and CHEZVIES WEBSITE.

I have quite a few cute cats print fabrics and I took out two of them. First one is this blue cat wallet. Arent's they cute? I really love the black and white chevron too. The chevron I got from  Indonesia last year.

http://shop.chezvies.com/HANDMADE-c22116625

The wallet is pretty quick to make and it's fun to make. I think that's the fabric effect. Ha!

Passport Holder

The next one is this orange cat Wallet. My fave! Look at those naughty smiles.

I even hesitated for a while before installing the metal tag. Just didn't want to cover the smiles with my tag.

I also made this retro type black and white wallet with bright pink and red combo. It's just perfect for those who love a little splash in life.

And I felt so happy when I found the flap matched perfectly. Well, life is full of surprises. Sometimes, even the best plan doesn't work out!

About the pattern, I hope to release it next Tuesday! So watch this space for more pictures from my friends.
