Disney Mickey Mouse Family Passport Holder

Hello,

This week I’ve completed my last Etsy orders. Apparently, the Mickey Mouse Disney Passport holder is very popular in my Shop that I have to re-order the fabrics. And I love working with fun fabrics.

In this post, I was talking about batching and it helped me a lot this month. Managing shops and home single-handedly is not an easy task. I mostly spend half of my morning replying to emails and messages, before doing my daily chores. Since I already cut a batch of interfacings for Passport Holders and Mini Crossbody Bag, the sewing part is easy. While I love cutting fabrics, cutting interfacing bored me.

OK, back to the passport holder, I made 2 variations and the buyer chose one which has card slots and interior zipper.

I still have a couple of local orders to finish now, and I won’t be accepting custom orders until I come back from Indonesia next August.
I have a couple for Ready to Ship items in my ETSY shop and Website (scroll down to buy).  And if you'd like to try to make passport holder for your next family holiday, you can get the pattern on Etsy & Craftsy

Something New

Hello again,

Few days ago, I was reading my past blog posts from way back in 2009 and 2010. I even read the comments and checked the profile of the commentator. Most of the bloggers are no longer writing. After the Facebook and Instagram, many people think writing a blog is too time-consuming. I was also caught up in the same trend. I mean, isn't it easier and more practical to just click photos and upload it to Facebook and Instagram, instead of writing all the details on the blog. The thing is, Facebook and Instagram is a fast moving, it's difficult to track what you have posted, even with the hashtag. Unlike a blog, where everything is properly documented. It's like a diary. We can always go back and read. Some cute moment, some ridiculous photos, and of course it warms my heart to read all those. Anyway enough of feeling nostalgic.

Yesteday, in between finishining my orders, I made this cute hipster cross body bag. It's been on my mind for several days, and it sort of bug me (you know what I mean?), so after cutting interfacings and fabrics for my Passport Holder orders, I draft the pattern and here it goes:

Originally, I wanted to make the pleat slightly closed, but I changed my mind. I love how the pleat turned out here.  It gives a patchwork look which was my initial intention.

I also made the front exterior pocket with hidden/concealed zipper. From far it will look like a slip pocket when it's actually a zippered pocket.

I was thinking to finish the top without a zipper, I guess that can always be an option later. I use beige linen for the solid and an orange diamond print fabric
Also, don't miss the patchwork removable strap! I love patchwork strap.

Besides that, I finished another mini crossbody bag from my Phone sleeve pattern. I used the kindle size for this one which turned out pretty cool.

It's such a fast sewing and how scrap friendly this pattern is. The paisley fabric is just perfect, it's like waiting for the right project to come along.

and of course the additional zippered pocket is always great option, right? Especially when you are traveling and want to keep all the small necessities with you without having to rummage the big backpack.

That's all for today. I have to go and take the boys to their music classes today and I hope the weather holds.

Until then,

Have a nice crafty weekends

Improvisation Part Deux - Family Passport Holder for 4

Hello again,

Weather is still pleasant in the Northeast of India. We got plenty of rain (and storm) this year and I hope the summer will not be too hot.

Since I posted my family passport holder with 4 slots in Facebook , many has message me. Many people need a smaller version of the wallet.
If you already bought the pattern (if you have not, links available at the end of this post), here's simple things you can do.

To make 4 slots passport holder :

1. Cut only the top and bottom card slots (Exterior Fabric, Lining and Interfacing).  And proceed as per pattern instructions.

2. Adjust the main body piece (Exterior, Lining, batting) by reducing the HEIGHT by 1 inch. The width should remain the same.

3. (Optional) Reduce the WIDTH of the flap exterior and the interfacing piece by 1 Inch. The length of the flap piece should remain the same. Or else you don't have to change the flap pattern if you want a wider flap, just like  these fun and beautiful wallets by Kausalya of The Turquoise Paisley

Now,  don't you love her wallets? They are super cute and fun. Check The Turquoise Paisley Facebook page to see more of fun handmade passport wallets and other fun stuff she made from Indian Fabrics

Improvisation on the family passport holder

Hello,

I got an email from a customer asking if the passport wallet I listed in Etsy will be able to hold 12 passports as they are dual passport holder. So, yes I can make it happen (I feel like a magician ^^ )

So, after carefully thinking I made a couple of changes in term of material that I used or listed in the PdF Pattern.

For you who already bought the pattern, this tips may come out handy if you need to make one too.

1.  The interfacing. In this Map Family Passport holder I used Medium Heavy interfacing on the exterior only. In the main body lining fabric, I used woven interfacing. I also used woven interfacing for the passport slots. Since I need them to be less rigid. This way, 2 passports can easily fit in one slot.

2. I omitted the mini zip and ID slot and added exterior zipper instead.

3. I also made the flap  longer by 0.5 inch to accommodate the bulk.

This family passport wallet is already on it's way to its new home. I will be offering this options in my shops.

This is the best part of custom order. Sometimes a request from a customer can lead  you to new ideas.

Thank you for all of you who've been supporting my small business all these years.

Until next time,

Happy Sewing

Small Family Travel Wallet

I made smaller version of the Family Passport Wallet. Instead of 6 passports, I made the 4 passport slot version. And it turned out really cute. I think I'm going to make more for the shop.

Many family travels the world together. Our family travel to Indonesia every summer holidays to visit my Mom and sisters. Keeping documents in one place in very necessary when you travels in group. So many documents to keep, from e-ticket print outs, hotel bookings, multiple boarding passes if you change flight multiple times, foreign currencies, etc.

Mini Zipper Pocket & ID card slot included

This travel wallet is perfect to help you organized while traveling. No more searching through numerous envelopes or pockets to get your travel documents.

Slim & Sturdy even when fully loaded

If you already purchased the pattern, you can modify it  by omitting the middle passport slot and lining pieces. Reduce the main panel length by 1" and reduce the flap width by 1" too. That will give you cute family passport holder perfect for family of 4 .

Simple Zippy Pouch and another Heidi

Remember I made Shibori Heidi foldover clutch last week? I simply love white and blue shibori, so I decided to make this simple zippy pouch and combined it with blue denims

Sometimes this simple thing that can make you happy.

Chevron Blue Rayon Cotton Indian Fabrics, Indigo Blue and white fabric, shibori fabric, dual color fabric, HALF YARD

this zippy pouch is perfect to carry in your big purse. I always keep at least 2 pouches in my purse. It's so handy to keep your bag organized.

Shibori blue zipper pouch, white blue cosmetic pouch, pencil pouch, pen holder, bag organizer, denim pouch

I added this simple pouch in my Etsy shop and the shibori fabric is available in my fabric shop.

And I finished another Heidi in Japanese linen. The fabrics were from long ago. I found it when I was looking for another fabric. That was some kind of aha moment. I thought of doing similar to the previous one with the accent at the bottom. But as I was ironing the interfacing I was thinking why not using 2 different fabrics? Et voila, la Heidi with vintage floral linen and newspaper print linen.

For the strap, I cut my genuine leather sheet I got from my last trip to Indonesia. I simply cut 3/4" x 115 cm and added swivel hook at both ends. I didn't have a slider yet, maybe I should get some.

This is the smaller size of the Heidi pattern by Swoonpatterns. It's perfect size to make sling bag. I still have enough fabric to make another one.

I know I'm going to make more Heidi, maybe a little variations.

That's all I finished this week, until next time

Yarn Over

It's almost end of the year. I'm taking time off from taking custom orders to explore more and sew more fun projects to add to the shop.

I finally began learning crochet too from youtube. And my current favorites are B Hooked Crochet and Bobwilson123 channel.
Now, I can do crochet while catching up my my fave Korean Drama and also while waiting for the boys in their music classes.

This is my first crochet finished : Crochet Cowl tutorial from BobWilson123. I gave this to my MIL for her to wear when she goes for morning walk.

My SIL also started picking up her knitting needles and whipped up these cute baby booties in no time. I told her I'll list it in the shop. She made loads of knitted sweaters for my sons when they were babies and sweaters for me. And many more as gifts.

So we decided to give "brand" byjulie. Julie is my SIL's name. We often talked about how we want to start having handmade business. But being a doctor, her time was limited. This year she took a little break and start working less hours, and I told her she can start doing and I'll list it in my Shops.

So, be sure to check my Etsy Shop and my Website (if you are in India) for more knitted stuff. We're going to play with yarn a lot this winter.
