Video Tutorial for Patchwork Drawstring Bag

Hello,

Finally, the video for making patchwork drawstring bag is up on my YouTube Channel. I just recently realized that I have not make a proper video tutorial for this bag. 

I made and sold a few bags in the past and I always wanted to make more. I have one bag that I always carry whenever I go out. Although it's small but it's pretty spacious to store my basic makeups, and other necessary items. And sometimes, I can just carry it when I run an errand. 

 

After reading Viridan's Blog I was so inspired and decided to sort out my 2.5" scrap bins (I have 2 bins!). Then I found a few 16 patches I made in the past. I am not sure if I wrote about it in this blog, but that got me inspired. The plan was to make scrappy 16 patch every week, but somehow it stopped. I made around 9 blocks and this year Insha Allah I plan to continue. 

I managed to sort it out by color. I kinda like this bins with divider. It's just perfect for the small scraps! 

Here some blocks I made in the past

Finding UFO blocks in your PHD bags is like finding a new treasures and got me excited that I want to complete something small. I was thinking to make placemats or mug rugs, you know something quick, also I want to make video tutorial for my channel. So I decided to make drawstring bag. Well, I ended up making 6 bags!! But instead of using that 16 patches I have already made, I decided to make from scratch, because I want more color-coordinated scraps! 

I also edited the tutorial that I wrote for this bag to make it clearer and added tutorial how to make boxed bottom/square bottom bag. It's easy, fun quick projects to make one afternoon and with small pieces, the bags looks really nice! Here are some more photos I took!

Last Week of April

Hello,

The past week, I was pretty busy. I started the Newsletter and really really happy I am able to share few things, like a free pattern! If you want it too, you can SIGN UP today.

On Friday night, there was a big storm and we ended up with no electricity until Saturday Night.

Few of our trees fell down and my younger son was really sad about it. He's fierce boy but very soft at heart. He loves animals and always goes to pat our newborn calf and feed the cows with his leftover tiffin whenever he comes back from school.

So on  Saturday afternoon, I spent my time cutting out interfacings for my Passport Holder  and mini crossbody bag orders. The shop wa quite busy the past few weeks, so I better get organized. Luckily I came across this post about batching from Jules of Sew Me Something. It's very inspiring!

(Batching is a form of time management that allows a person to maximize concentration and decrease distraction) 

I'm glad I did it, so today I can quickly make this Frozen Mini Crossbody bag for my friend, Wulan's daughter - Anisha. I hope she will like it. They will go to Indonesia for summer break next week. I hope it will reach them on time.

I added the back zipper too. While deciding which fabric combo to use, I ask my elder son. He has a good taste and I often consult him whenever I am stuck with a color choice. Though he's only 13 years old :D. We initially agreed with the off-white linen but since Anisha is still small, I decided to go for more girly color.

Another one I completed (besides my passport wallet orders) is this cute reversible drawstring pouch. I followed a tutorial on YouTube. There was no measurement written on it so I just make my own. I am using 2 Fat Eight (9" x 18") and love the result. Yes, just 2 pieces of fabric. No interfacing! Isn't cool? I used quilting weight cotton from my stash and the green stripe cotton mix fabric.

Yes, sometimes you don't need interfacing. Depends on what is the purpose of the bag, like a foldable shopping bag, it's better off without interfacing because we can just roll  and put it inside the purse.

This will be a great quick pattern to make for a gift.

Gift Bag

I love making gift bags to send along with my sales at my Supply Shop. I usually make it with whatever remnant fabrics I have ^_^.

This one is made of white cotton fabric, I add a little ribbon rose there….I hope my customers are happy with this little gift from me..^_^

Feeling down :-(

Today I feel a bit down. I checked my Etsy inbox and got one convo saying that she’s yet to get her parcel from me. It’s almost 1 month. I filed a complain with the post office and I hope someone there will do something about it. For me, selling online is not just about money. The customer’s satisfaction is my UTMOST importance. If my customer(s) don’t get their order or not satisfied with my products I’d rather refund their money.
Today, that was what I offered her. Fortunately she agreed to wait for sometimes. I hope by the time, my parcel will reach her. I think this is the most crucial things in selling online..ehmm..beside photography (at least for me).

Whenever I’m sending the parcel (even for swap) I always take really care, such as make sure I wrap everything in plastic before put it in an envelope and if necessary, during the monsoon season, I use double envelopes and put broad cellotape all over.

I love to send my parcel in special wrapping that I made my self . Or if I don’t have much time, I wrap it using one traditional piece of cloth (gamocha), which is our traditional symbol of friendship, love, respect,etc. Otherwise for small order like trims and ribbons I made a drawstring pouches. I also made a simple Thank You card.

I just hope all my customers will get their parcel in time and also my swap partners. Thanks a lot for your patience and I hope what I have sent you is worth the wait :-)
