Batik Quilted Sling Bag

Hello,

We have  quite stormy weather the last couple of days. Sometimes the sun comes out for a while and suddenly dark cloud with strong wind and rain come. But rainy days are always a good sewing day, right?

I finally finished this Batik log cabin sling bag. It was sitting near my sewing table for a few weeks waiting to be completed. As usual I got side tracked doing a couple of wallets orders.

I used this  purple aqua Fat Eighth bundle from the shop. I really love this combo!!

I started piecing the log cabin  with nothing specially planned. I just trying out a couple of log cabin pattern from the book I bought last January at the Tokyo Quilt Festival. This book is really awesome!

I added a lightweight fusible interfacing before adding a fleece batting. The same way I did the previous sling bag. I liked the sturdy yet soft finish, after the quilting is done.

This time I did a circle echo quilting using a subtle purple Calypso Thread. It is an embroidery thread which has a silky finished. Mostly used in machine embroidery.

On the back, I decided to use a plain batik from my stash. The quilting is simple echo quilting in diamond shape inspired by this walking foot quilting by Christina Cameli

Instead of zipper closure, I decided to use magnetic snap closure the way I did for the passport covers. It's because the bag is quite small, so I just want it to be simple, no fuss kind of bag. I finished the top with binding. I used 1.5" wide binding strip, sewed it by machine on the lining side and finished it by hand on the exterior side.

This bag would be perfect to take for your morning walk. It's quite spacious to fit in small water bottle, a phone and maybe a face towel.

It was a fun satisfying little project, even though I took a little bit long to finish it but I am happy with the outcome. What do you think?

Another Log Cabin Sling Bag

Hello,

And the log cabin sling bag is done and on it's way to the new owner. I took a bit of time to complete this one and happy that I did.

Quilting taught me to be patient. From cutting the small pieces of fabrics and putting them together and finally make them into a final product is a learning process.

Just like what I learned from one Kdrama Show - Master in The House/Jipsabu

"It's coming from you, it's your style. It's the same with art. When you keep doing it, you start to see your own style. It's all you. You will find your color. When you have the rhythm, you have a wisdom" - Jeon In Kwon

I love making patchwork and quilt, especially small ones and quilted patchwork bag has been on my bucket list for a long time! After I went to the Tokyo International Quilt show last year, I sort of have an "aha" moment!

Don't be afraid to try something new. If anything goes wrong, you only have to unpick the stitches and do it again.

Quilted Log Cabin Sling Bag

Hello,

I am so happy to finally finished this bag. For you who follow my Instagram must have seen I posted this sling bag progress from a few months ago.

I followed this tutorial for the log cabin bag. The original was for mini tote bag but I thought the size is good for sling bag. It was really satisfying to work with small strip of fabrics.

I used up my fat eighth bundle and very happy with the result!
The machine quilting took a bit of time since I did it in between working on my custom orders.

I added one interior zipper pocket and one slip pocket in the interior and also top zipper. The bag is just enough to carry your smartphone and mini wallet or maybe a notebook.

I am hoping to make more of this bag this year. Make sure you subscribe to my blog or follow my instagram to get first update when new bags are up for sale ;)

Let me know what do you think in the comments below!

Until then,

Happy Sewing!

Back to Quilt ~ for a baby boy

It's done!

A friend of mine was expecting a baby boy and  few months ago she asked me to make a tote bag for her using Indian cotton fabrics.

I've been busy making passport wallets for the past few months and enjoyed it tremendously.

And here's what I came up with

peacock blue and dark grey combo

The bag has a drawstring closure. I was thinking of using zippers but as diaper bags drawstring seems to be more versatile since you can fit in more stuff without worrying about the zippers.

With the bag I made a matching mini quilt.

it's 30" x 30" which is perfect for new born.
It's meant for spring/summer weather so I used flannel batting. It turned out very soft.

one more shot

I've been using flannel batting for few quilts that I made and I like it, esp for my kind of weather which is quite humid during the summer.
It's a perfect covering in AC room during the summer months ^v^ .

If you need the fabric, you can visit my shop or contact me in my FACEBOOK .
I'd be glad you hear from you.

Until then...

My bundle of joy and a bag

And no, it's not a baby. It's just my favorite Indian  fabrics. They came in various bright colours imaginable. When I got my new stocks I have all kind of ideas running around my head.

Fabrics available  at www.chezviessupplies.etsy.com

And since I was leaving for Indonesia to visit my Mom, I knew I had to make one bag or two.

This one I made from tutorial in one Japanese craft book. You know what, if you simply looked at the pictures and not intimidated by the Japanese alphabets, you can easily follow the tutorial :D .

I added 2 swivel hooks on the inner side, to anchor whatever pouches I carry.

so, there you go again.

Now, I need to make another one, since my dear sister has "confiscated" this one. Her words not mine ;)

Let me know if you want one, I'll be happy to do custom order for you ^_^.

Until then, Happy Sewing

Give me some sunshine

"Give me some sunshine
Give me some rains
Give me another chance
I wanna grow up once again"
(Can't stop  humming this song from Amir Khan's 3 Idiots....)

This what I completed yesterday. I used smaller size hexies (1") and did the simple butterfly embroidery there. This one is so cheerful with lime green and yellow combination. Inside I put white cotton with pastel color polka dots. yeah..It's yummy pouch..:D
(detail pictures are in my FLICKR)

I still wanna do a few more small patchwork/hexies project but I got some packing to do....wohoooo...I'm going to my home country for holiday...Yay!!..

OK, time to do a serious packing now...I hope I made enough for my friends back home...^^

have a great crafty weekend everyone...

Patchwork Bag and more

Today I was cleaning my craft boxes where I keep my fabric etc. I don’t have craft room as yet, so everything is kept in boxes. I found one unfinished project. I did the mirror embroidery few months ago and I wanted to make a pouch out of it. The fabric is handwoven Indian cotton. I used one cheery yellow fabric left over from one yellow dress I made. And I’m happy with the result.

One more thing I started using is flannel. I have this flannel lying around, left over from the time when I used to make baby wrap for my younger son. It turns out quite a good substitute for batting. Since batting is not available here where I live, I usually used thin foam instead. But you know for certain projects foam is just out of the question. So I was experimenting with flannel, and it’s  very GREAT. I got the softness and sturdiness at the same time.
I used the flannel for the patchwork bag too. I use cotton khadi for the base, which is quite thick and sturdy. I add cute ribbon to give more accent…what do you think?

Yes, this is my second boxy pouch. I simply love making it. It’s perfect to hold your jewelry, watch, brooches, coins even your basic make up i.e compact powder & lipstick….yay to that!
