Hello and happy Monday! 

I mentioned in my previous post about the plan for Kawandi QAL. It was started a few months ago by Brinda Ma'am and we have a Whatsapp group to share our progress. 

 Well, I finally get my quilt prepped up and started making the border. I have a few mulmul fabrics in half-meter cuts and decided to use one of them for this. It's going to be a big-ish table runner. 

I thought of making a lap size quilt but I don't have the confidence to finish it. At least this one will be doable for now. We have to finish it by end of the year. Well, I have a long list of Historical Chinese dramas to company me LOL. 

To motivate me, I make a progress video and will update as I make more progress. I'm very bad at following QAL or SAL, so I hope by making a progress video I can push myself to finish it.

And why not making two kawandi ? Yup, I'm easily distracted like that. I was searching for scraps and found leftover strips from the Jellyroll Quilt I made earlier. I thought why not started another one? I am making one without border as I plan to turn it into maybe a tote bag? My mind keeps changing as I am quilting it.

Handmade Happiness 4 - Pelican Tote Free Pattern

Hello and welcome to Handmade Happiness!

When Namrata of Bagstock Designs asked if I could test her new tote bag pattern, I said yes immediately. The Pelican Tote bag is an easy beginner pattern. When I saw the design, I wanted to do a quilted one but I didn't have much time left after finishing my last orders of the week.

Luckily I have a patchwork print fabric and decided to use that instead. I did a simple diagonal grid line quilting on the pink fabric and wavy lines on the denim. The denim I used here is a lightweight denim. The pattern is very easy to follow with clear photo step by step instructions. 

The bag size is also perfect at 15” W x 12” H x 3" D. 

. Though it said to be a market tote, but I think it will be good as college tote or maybe a diaper bag. It has a front zip pocket, interior zip pocket and a magnetic snap closure. Easy and Quick project. The pattern is FREE and is available at Bagstock Designs Website.

36 Patch Fruity Orange Quilt

Yes, that's what I call this one. Its been a UFO for a year. I was hooked on Amanda Jean's blog with her easy to follow  QALs n then out of nowhere I decided to try this 36 patch QAL  . There was supposed to be a yellow blocks  too but I ran out of fabric so I just used these 2 colors.

It was fun to make...and to see I actually have the guts to piece all those blocks is still shock me even now...LOL. this is one of my first attemp on serious quilting. And the biggest so far. Do I sound proud?? Well..I do LOL..

Now, it's sitting pretty is my room waiting for the weather to get colder then I can snuggle up under this one ^^

Learning Cathedral Windows

I've been wanting to learn cathedral windows block but too scare to start until Chumkie who blogs at My Favorite Things  started a QAL in Desi Quilter's. It looks so complicated in the beginning but with Chumkie's clear instruction and see other's result, finally I managed to do it and had LOTS of FUN making them. 

The First CW QAL is Orange Peel Method.  It  is a bit tricky because you have to make it as round as possible. I made  cushion cover  with two colors, polkadots red and solid white. 

The Second one is using Flying Geese Method, which I like. I decided to use my Indonesian batik in 4 different colors for the foundation, and polkadots (again) for the window panes. And here's the result:

Happy Quilting

One project too many

I'm the kind of person who likes doing several projects together. I get bored easily if I just doing one project at a time. I know this is very bad, cos then I'll have a lot of unfinished projects. Oh yeah I still do.

I'm currently working on my first big quilt project. I enrolled my self to Amanda Jean's 36 patch Quilt-a Long. Yes, I'm still doing it now.

And in between, I saw this nice quilt called "double nine patch" in a magazine and thought of doing a mini one. And guess what I did it!! *big green*. 

Then there are left overs patch from both the QAL and the mini quilt and I made these place mats:

And then, I decided to try the Ohio Star patchwork. So I picked up few fabrics and starts working on it and there it is the table runner.

for this one I used flannel as a batting which is much better than using thin foam which I used in the mini quilt. I should've known better. Anyway, I'm quite happy with these little projects that I've done, tomorrow it's time to get back to the QAL ^_^..

36 QAL in progress

I told you I participated in Amanda Jean's 36 Blocks QAL. So far I have done 16 blocks. 20 Blocks to go which I hope to finish it before Eid ^_^

Red zig zag table top

Last week has been a little slow on sewing side. And now the summer holidays is around the corner so I have to think of how to keep my energetic sons busy. I enroll them into a summer camp sort of things, so that will keep them amused for sometimes.

Meanwhile, I managed to finish my (yet again) table runner. Yup, the zig zag quilt one. I was thinking of giving a white border (sash?), but it wasn't look good so I opened it again and decided not to give any border. Instead I chose red polkadots as a backing & binding.  What do you think?

There was a little bit binding left and one morning I made this pencil holder out of Fox can..now it looked more decent, don't you think?

So, now the #1 block of the BLACK & WHITE Quilt Along of Crafty gemini....(sorry my progress is very very slow). What do you think? It's fun to work with and can't wait to finish the next block. I have to play hide and seek with my little one since he always after my precious rotary cutter..:P
