Batik Quilted Sling Bag

We have  quite stormy weather the last couple of days. Sometimes the sun comes out for a while and suddenly dark cloud with strong wind and rain come. But rainy days are always a good sewing day, right? 

I finally finished this Batik log cabin sling bag. It was sitting near my sewing table for a few weeks waiting to be completed. As usual I got side tracked doing a couple of wallets orders. 

I used this  purple aqua Fat Eighth bundle from the shop. I really love this combo!! 

I started piecing the log cabin  with nothing specially planned. I just trying out a couple of log cabin pattern from the book I bought last January at the Tokyo Quilt Festival. This book is really awesome!

I added a lightweight fusible interfacing before adding a fleece batting. The same way I did the previous sling bag. I liked the sturdy yet soft finish, after the quilting is done. 

This time I did a circle echo quilting using a subtle purple Calypso Thread. It is an embroidery thread which has a silky finished. Mostly used in machine embroidery. 

On the back, I decided to use a plain batik from my stash. The quilting is simple echo quilting in diamond shape inspired by this walking foot quilting by Christina Cameli. 

Instead of zipper closure, I decided to use magnetic snap closure the way I did for the passport covers. It's because the bag is quite small, so I just want it to be simple, no fuss kind of bag. I finished the top with binding. I used 1.5" wide binding strip, sewed it by machine on the lining side and finished it by hand on the exterior side. 

This bag would be perfect to take for your morning walk. It's quite spacious to fit in small water bottle, a phone and maybe a face towel. 

It was a fun satisfying little project, even though I took a little bit long to finish it but I am happy with the outcome. What do you think?

Handmade Happiness #3 - Batching or Multitasking?

Hello and welcome to Handmade Happiness!

Thank you for linking up in my first link up last week. So lovely to see your creations.

Last week I didn't complete much - sewing wise. However I did a couple of batching work! Yay!

I posted in my Instagram Story a few days ago whether you prefer Batching or Multitasking. Surprisingly the result shown 50% for each. As a woman and a mom, I think we are born multitasker. However when it comes to doing your home-based business, I read that batching is more appropriate. Batching is doing one task at a certain time and only concentrate on the work at hand, while multitasking is keep switching between two or 3 works at a time. Read the complete article HERE.

Passport Covers

For me, while sewing, I keep checking my phone for email or messages and sometimes get caught up in the conversations while my machine is on. Or I suddenly want to post updates in my Instagram and ended up scrolling endlessly. It is very distracting.

A gift for a friend -Owl Wallet

Since I read the article, I tried to practice it. For someone who always multitasking all the time, it is tough job! But I did it. I completed many wallets, prepping a couple of works that  need to be done, getting all the winter clothes sort out. I also took photos for my shops, finished the owl wallet above for Namrata which is long due!! Thanks for your patience ^__^. I'm still working out my schedule. I hope I will be more organized in the future.

Saturday Recap

Hello,

Today morning I took this photo of my makeshift photo booth. The morning light was just perfect today! Perfect day for photo session.

I found these block in my UFO bag and did a prep work. Now they are ready to quilt! I think diagonal grid line quilting will look good, what do you think?

Another prep work was cutting these batting for pillow covers. So excited for this project. It's simple wholecloth quilt kind of cushion like this one, which I think will be perfect for your summer decor. I will finish the quilting of all the front panels then will finish the cushion covers.

I finished quilting 4 tops for now. I  love this green chevron so I thought just following the gap in between each chevron print and loved how it turned out. The wonky lines turned out really good. I will take a better picture next time!

One happy mail! yes the Hex n More ruler from Jaybird Quilts. I wanted to make something like this and my friend, mbak Belly, suggested I get the ruler. 

and of course I had to try it! Jewel Hexagon - one block at a time!!

And this Nautical theme wallet is what I am currently working on. It's a single travel wallet! So excited to work with new fabric!! I hope to complete the orders before mid of next week

That's all for my Saturday Recap! Most are still in a WIP stage which hopefully I will be able to complete some of them tomorrow. The boys are going for another round of Avengers movie so I have a few hours undisturbed sewing time!
