How to Make Face Shield or Face Guard - Free Pdf Pattern

I got a message from my sister in Indonesia that she needs face shield and asked me if I know someone who make and sell them. At this time like this, I wish I could make for her and my family back home. But we live so far away from each other.

I told her it's easy to make one but then I am the only one who can sew (and my mom but she doesn't do much sewing nowadays).

So today, I am sharing this super easy tutorial for those who may need it to protect themselves and their families.

It's super easy and quick sew. I put together a PDF File with templates for you to download.
I used a thick (maybe around 0.8 mm) clear vinyl, the one that usually used for table covering. You can off course upcycle clear vinyl from new duvet or bed sheet  packaging, etc. The bias binding around the vinyl will stabilize it, if your vinyl is not thick enough.

I showed my SIL and she loved it. She wanted few for her Lab staff. I hope, I can get the vinyl as government has allowed certain business activities from tomorrow. Or else I have to wait until lock down is over on 3rd May.

The face shield really remind me of Korean Ahjumma visors ^^. When I showed it to my friend, Eva, she said she needs one to use when she peels/cut onions. Well, now I guess I need one too ^^.

Any way, I hope you like the tutorial. Please download the pattern using the link below.

Thank you for your continued supports!

Easy Scrub Hat Patterns

Get the Pattern on Etsy

Hello,
I hope everyone is keeping well. I've been working on few pending patterns that are in my draft folder for a long time :D.
Creating pattern especially with templates takes time. From making samples, try it out, make sure the templates are correct, taking photos, editing and the tough part is writing the words! Many times, my brain freeze and I just had to leave it ^^.

I've been working for this banded scrub hat pattern for a couple of weeks. It's based on my original tutorial 9 years ago. I tweak the pattern to fit most adult with head circumference 58 cms or 23 inches and Kids size with head circumference 20-21 inch.

This surgical cap pattern comes with full scale patterns in 2 sizes which you can easily print on your home printer. Everybody has different head size, so I added a tips on how to  scale up or down the scrub hat. For example, my SIL (who is a doctor) loves the hat to cover  most of the forehead, while my elder son (who has a big head with narrow forehead) prefer a slightly narrow hat. I prefer the narrow one to wear as underscarf but love the broader one to cover most of my head when I am cooking :). Oh yes, I wear head covering when I cook for hygienic reason.

The pattern is available in my ETSY shop for minimal price. Or if you like simply click the button below this post to get one.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
Take care & stay well.

Pretty Handmade Face Masks

Sewing anything for children is always fun. When a friend asked for face mask for her 3 years old daughter, I was so excited and started digging my fabric stash. And since Frozen is everyone's fave that was my first choice. The second one I decided on Teddy Bear print in Pink.

Truly, with lock down is extended till end of April here in India, having stash of fabrics is really an advantage. Shops are all closed except for essential shops. Though, today morning I read that fellow quilters  in the US were upset when Joann was to be closed because it's not considered essentials. Well, how will they make and donate masks if the fabric shop are closed, right? I also feel, fabric shops and craft store should remain open, because this is the time we need something crafting to do to avoid boredom during lock down, right?

When it comes to fabric mask, there are already so many  experts and articles about its efficiency. There seem to be different opinion between expert in Western and Eastern Countries. In the end of the day, it's up to you whether to wear mask or not. As for myself, I refer to this article from the Strait Times and also Youtube Videos from Asian Boss HERE and HERE. Even Japan PM is wearing cloth mask and Japan Government is sending 2 cloth masks to every household.
As Asian countries like Singapore and South Korea have experienced few epidemic outbreaks in the past 10 years, I supposed mask wearing at certain level help to flatten the curve.

Also, in a country like India, where PPE and masks for medical workers are insufficient, there are million of people who can't afford to buy disposable mask, even if it's only INR 10 (USD 0.13).

Let's help each other to fight this pandemic. Stay Home, Maintain Social Distancing, Wash Your Hands Frequently, Don't Touch Your Face and Wear Mask when You Go Out. Remember, DO NOT hoard medical grade masks, those are for our front liners! Instead, make masks and gift them to your families, friends and less fortunate people around you.
Thank you for stopping by.
Take care & stay well!
