36 Patch Fruity Orange Quilt

Yes, that's what I call this one. Its been a UFO for a year. I was hooked on Amanda Jean's blog with her easy to follow  QALs n then out of nowhere I decided to try this 36 patch QAL  . There was supposed to be a yellow blocks  too but I ran out of fabric so I just used these 2 colors.

It was fun to make...and to see I actually have the guts to piece all those blocks is still shock me even now...LOL. this is one of my first attemp on serious quilting. And the biggest so far. Do I sound proud?? Well..I do LOL..

So here are few pics of my Fruity Orange

Now, it's sitting pretty is my room waiting for the weather to get colder then I can snuggle up under this one ^^

oh and if you want to see how others are doing you can visit Crazy Mom's Quilt Flickr Page. It's just so inspiring to see what others are doing in Flickr ^^.

Until then...Happy Quilting

Finish the top

The progress of this one is a bit slow. I got distracted doing something else and kind of neglected this one. I love how it turn out. So Yesterday, I took it out from the cupboard, cut strips for the border and voila...

 can U spot the pinwheel?

I love the pinwheel in the middle. It's sort of hide n seek pinwheel. I've done the mini quilt with this design before. If you notice the border, I didn't do the usual, instead to stitch the white n red one first and than attach it to the quilt top. And I think I will use scrappy binding from the black and grey fabric. What do you think?

Almost Forgotten

Last month I've completed another small quilts which I almost forgot to pots ^_^

#1 Marble Stars table runner

I love collecting South Indian cotton. I love their shade of colors which you hardly get in anywhere else in the world. The texture, the color.

combination of red, tan, blue and teal is really pretty in this one. I hesitated in the beginning, not sure how will it turn out. But in th end I'm happy with it. I put decorative stitches there too.

and it has scrappy backing too!!

I don't put any batting for this and I love how it turned out :).
This available at the SHOP for sale.

#2 Can You Spot the pinwheel Mini Quilt

I was kind of having sewing block when one day I got parcel from my friend in USA. Mbak Hany sent me 2 FQ and a quilt magazine!!! What a lucky girl I am ^_^

just what I needed to get me sewing again ^_^.
This one I picked the pattern from the magazine

Can U spot the pinwheel?

Memorable Holiday Mini Quilt

This my entry for the India MQG February Challenge. The rules are using your scrap and the quilt is about the most memorable holidays. For me, every  holdays have their own memorable moments, but what I always love is coming home to my town where I was born and grew up - MALANG. Even though now Malang has grown into a mini metropolitant city, but it still hold it own charm.

What I love most about Malang is it always blooming with flowers all around the cities. Hence, the flower fabrics I used in the border. Malang is a hilly town, surrounded by beautiful mountains all around. Whereever you turn your head, all you'll see is greenaries.

"Palm Tree Block"

Can U spot the palm tree there? It's one of Malang's trademark tree.
This is the view in front of the mayor office (Balai Kota). It's called Bunderan Tugu.

This Bunderan Tugu has several road branch which lead to different part of the city. It's surrounded by favorite High Schools (MY Highschool too!!) , hotels on one side, and the train station in the other.

The garden is beautifully maintained which is a real treat for tired eyes:)

Here is another  famous landmark in Malang, Ijen Boulevard. With it's palm trees and big colonial houses, it's a great place if you want to just strolling or taking a walk. In the middle there are mini gardens with flowers and shrubs.

The Apples Block

Malang's most famous fruit. There are lots of apple orchards in Malang and Batu (a hill town 30 min from Malang). Malang's Apple is called rumbutter, it's juicy and crunchy and has this sweet tangy taste which I love the most.

Below is how the apple vendors sell their apples. This is a common sight when you're travelling from Malang to Batu or to Surabaya.

and of course I always love to visit the sea. Indonesia is an archipelago, it has the most beautiful beaches in the world, whether the explored one or the un-explored ones. I spent my childhood exploring beaches with my father who was working in a coffee plantation. Most of the time, the garden were near the sea. Almost every holidays we spent discovering new beaches, white sands, black sands, you name it, we have it :).

Last year we went to explore another beaches. You can read the post HERE. So, this block is for those wonderful holidays at the sea.

All the appliques here are handstitched by yours truly. I'm not a big fan of hand quilting, though I enjoy doing embroidery now and then.:). I must learn to master the machine decorative stitching now that I got a new Bernette E92c ;)

Until then...happy quilting

Looking Back

Looking back to the year 2011, here  are few collages of what crafts I have completed in 2011.
I may say I had quite a busy days last year. This year, I want to be more serious on doing patcwork and quilting. Didn't I told you that I have joined the Indian Modern Quilt Guild? *yay*...I'm very excited to learn and share with like-minded people. And so far it's been very exciting & enlightning, if I may say..

I bought few felt when I went home in 2010 and start trying doing felt craft when I don't do anything else.

and at times I love making small dresses for my niece or my friend's daughter or make few stuff for my friends:)

or try making other things. I used to love making bag and pouches and I still do have few patterns which I wanted to try making. Hopefully this year I will be able to make them :)

Happy Crafting ^_^

One project too many

I'm the kind of person who likes doing several projects together. I get bored easily if I just doing one project at a time. I know this is very bad, cos then I'll have a lot of unfinished projects. Oh yeah I still do.

I'm currently working on my first big quilt project. I enrolled my self to Amanda Jean's 36 patch Quilt-a Long. Yes, I'm still doing it now.

36 QAL in progress

And in between, I saw this nice quilt called "double nine patch" in a magazine and thought of doing a mini one. And guess what I did it!! *big green*.

Then there are left overs patch from both the QAL and the mini quilt and I made these place mats:

table topper/placemat

And then, I decided to try the Ohio Star patchwork. So I picked up few fabrics and starts working on it and there it is the table runner.

ohio star table runner

for this one I used flannel as a batting which is much better than using thin foam which I used in the mini quilt. I should've known better. Anyway, I'm quite happy with these little projects that I've done, tomorrow it's time to get back to the QAL ^_^..

Until then....happy crafting ^__^

Red zig zag table top

Last week has been a little slow on sewing side. And now the summer holidays is around the corner so I have to think of how to keep my energetic sons busy. I enroll them into a summer camp sort of things, so that will keep them amused for sometimes.

Meanwhile, I managed to finish my (yet again) table runner. Yup, the zig zag quilt one. I was thinking of giving a white border (sash?), but it wasn't look good so I opened it again and decided not to give any border. Instead I chose red polkadots as a backing & binding.  What do you think?

There was a little bit binding left and one morning I made this pencil holder out of Fox can..now it looked more decent, don't you think?

So, now the #1 block of the BLACK & WHITE Quilt Along of Crafty gemini....(sorry my progress is very very slow). What do you think? It's fun to work with and can't wait to finish the next block. I have to play hide and seek with my little one since he always after my precious rotary cutter..:P

Thank you for stopping by....happy crafting

Blue Knotted Dress and everything else

I've been a bit busy recently. Not so much of sewing though. I still have the Red zig zag runner to finish. However I was so excited with my new toy..Olfa rotary cutter which I finally bought from Yvette at Etsy. She's so nice to double wrap it without any additional charge.

I found this nice blog of Crafty Gemini where she gives video tutorial on sewing. Recently Vanessa started a Black & White Quilt A Long . I'm going to participate (yay!), since I've been wanting to make quilt for my sons. I hope I can finish it. It's going to be my first big quilt. So here what I've got:

And one more thing, I made this knotted dress for my friend's niece. Got the fabric from one of my regular shop. It's the last 1.5 yards fabric. I love the color, it's perfect for summer. I was thinking of yellow solid for the strap but I didn't have it in stock so I went ahead with the blue one instead.

End of this week, my sons mid term assessment will start, so all the sewing craft related will be put on the back seat for awhile...until then...Happy Crafting

WIP Wednesday: Hour Glass Table Runner

I hate to unpick stitches:(. This orange squares have gone through a lot. I love the fabric and wanted to make table runner. First I just put the squares together and put a solid white in the middle, but it didn't look good. And since i hate unpicking it, I thought of doing some applique works on the solid or some hand embroidery. Again it was not good.

So I decided to unpick (yay) n make hour glass squares instead. N been playing with layout ideas the whole afternoon. Can't wait to finish it.

This is what's I've done so far. The backing fabric is from one if my Tunic.

Happy Crafting everyone..:)
