Last month I made these small keychain wallets! They are so much fun to make and are my preferred mood booster project. The fabrics are all from my stash! These wallets are handy to keep small things like cards, cash, coins, lipstick, gum, etc.
Speaking about patterns, I recently increased the price for the patterns on my ETSY SHOP only. I was actually reluctant to do it, but then the cost of running a small business on Etsy is also increasing. There were some changes for Etsy sellers in India, and now it is mandatory to use Etsy Payment. That means, all the money goes to Etsy first and Etsy will send us the balance after deducting all the fees. It was a bit confusing in the first few days and one thing I miss is my daily Paypal deposit!
Besides that, I was also busy revamping my website. The new Ecwid instant site is perfect. Nowadays, I feel a bit apprehensive to learn new things. But I never thought that converting to the new site was so easy! I love a website that is simple to operate, be it on a desktop or on a mobile app.
Now, for the last couple of months, I have also been using Shopify, especially for my patterns. The main reason is to connect the shop to my YouTube channel. Setting up Shopify is a bit of a challenge for me. I rant ehm talk about it HERE. But that's of course from my point of view.
Well, having your own website is not as glamorous as it looks, especially if you are running your small business solo! For now, I like it the way it is. I tried to make more ready-to-ship wallets and pouches in between orders.
Here are some 9980 hours to mastering hand quilting 😃
I'm a big fan of Suzuko Koseki and I collected a few of her books. The one I particularly love and want to learn from is the Modern Quilts book. It has an interesting quilt pattern from simple to complicated ones, or at least it looks complicated to me :D.
In these 2 mini quilts, I am using Indian Handloom fabrics in high contrast colors. I was not sure in the beginning but once done, they turned out really pretty. Sometimes, we have to try something out of our comfort zone!
The book only gave dimension of the block but not really gave instructions. But I supposed it was to be pieced in half circle. So I did with this teal and orange one.
I made another one which I cut 5" square and piece quarter circle block. I don't know if this is the correct term :D.
I called these block my Moonshine and valentine - just because it the shape remind me of the moon and I was watching C-Drama with the same title. Johnny Huang is stunning in the drama 💙!
On the back, I used glace cotton fabric in dark teal and I love the texture of the finished quilt. They turned out very soft. The trivets finished at 8" x 8" and it's just the perfect size for anything. From mug rug, doily, trivets, or even for indoor plant mat.
I am still curious about the block and plan to make more but using poplin cotton instead of handloom fabrics. Although handloom colors are gorgeous, it's a bit too stiff for circle piecing. Maybe I can do better with cotton or Bali Batiks!
I bought this local brand needle Jyoti Needles before I did the Kantha Workshop. I was skeptical in the beginning but the shop owner didn't have Pony Needle when I went. And guess what? It turned out really good and all the needles are sharp. I always have a problem with Pony Needle for hand sewing my wallet. But this one turned out better than Pony. I may need to stock up now.
I am still doing the quilting based on the Kawandi Quilt as I really love it. I plan to make more small kawandi quilts too, but it may take a while before I finally get down to make it. I have a few UFO quilts that I want to finish. Most of them are small quilts and a few single bed quilts.
If you want to know how I did the quilting, I uploaded a small video on my Youtube Channel. It was recorded during my first Instagram Live. You can watch it here.
Thank you for stopping by, I hope you enjoy your visit!
I need something to keep my wonder clips then I saw several tutorial about this snappy mini pouch. There are several technique to do it but I found this one the easiest. (thank you Nancy-ssi for the tutorial)
I use my own measurements for this. Since it's pretty small, I decided to make several. It's always nice to have one handy for gifting, right? The blue cat print is leftover from a passport wallet I did for a customer a few months ago. I thought I'd cut and added into my pre cut bin, but it was big enough to make this pouch :D
The blue and green is Indian fabrics. The leaf print blue is a handloom fabric, also leftover from passport holder and the patchwork print was a gift from a friend.
The pouch is very cute and we can use it to keep many things, coins (the most popular), sewing kits , or like me to keep my wonder clips:)
I keep the other two for gift.
It's always nice to learn something new, right? Here's the video in case you want to make one too:
In the past few weeks we have so much of rain which make the weather very pleasant! I took this Slow Motion video yesterday just for fun!
The last two weeks I was busy with custom orders, Alhamdulillah. Also busy working on my Etsy Shops. Etsy is changing it's advertising policy and now the Etsy Promoted Ads and Google Ads are merged. This makes many sellers very disappointed, because suddenly our visits and views dropped drastically since August. Even my stores! With the new system, we don't have any control over the CPC and our daily budget is quickly spent! For bigger shops maybe they are not much affected but for smaller shops like mine, this changing really affect us.
I'm still working on my Etsy shops to adjust with the new changes! and it takes up a LOT of time!! Meanwhile, here's a few things I finished.
I finished this Pink Floral Double Zip Pouch last week. I decided to go with grey polkadots as an accent fabric. Well, if nothing works, go for polkadots! :D
Nowadays I love using metal zipper, since I learned how to sew with metal zipper without breaking your needle! It looks good also. I ordered more yardage for metal zips and still waiting. I hope I will get it after the Durga Puja Holiday.
I also made these cute pocket tissue holders. They make a great gift, right? I am using my Indian fabric scraps and simply love how they turned out. These tissue holders are available in my Etsy Shop as well as on my Webshop!
That's all for today. I still have a few orders to finish this week and also huge homework of working on my Etsy SEO. With Etsy changing, I think it's time for me to revise my prices on Etsy too. However you can also check out my WEBSHOP too. I ship internationally from my webshop too!
