The Easiest Choco Cupcake

I found this recipe somewhere on the net (sorry forgot the website) and I've been using this few times. I don't cook or bake too often and when I do, I like doing something easy and fast ^^

So, here's my easiest Cupcake recipe (make 16)

Ingredients:

150 gr butter

150 gr ground sugar

175 gr flour

1 tsf baking powder

3 eggs

2 tbsp choco powder

1 tsf vanilla essence

Method:

1. Lightly beat the eggs with fork.

2. Put all ingredients + eggs in a bowl and mix it with low speed mixer for 2 mins or until it's soft and creamy.

3. Preheat your oven and line your cupcake tray with cupcake liners.Drop 1 tbs of the mixture.

4. Bake until done. 

If you're lucky it'll done in less than an hour ^^

Black n White Pinwheel Quilt

I've done my second custom order of big summer quilt. This one is 84" x 102". She asked for a black n white quilt for her son. So, since I love Pinwheel, I made this one for him. 

Done and delivered:

They were very happy with this one and the Pink and Lavender one. In the end, a happy customer is the biggest reward. They really made my day.

Sunny Bee #1 - Sunflower Applique Block

The first Queen bee for the Sunny Bee at Desi Quilters is Bhavani. She wants us to make sunflower block and here's my block. 

I'm not very good with applique but I love doing it sometimes. For this one, I made the template according to Bhavani's instructions and cut off 9 pcs petals on the interfacing and ironed in on the fabric. I'm using Easy Applique Tutorial.

 The starching part was really helpful and it really makes applique-ing a breeze. I thought of finishing it by hand but I didn't have much time in hand, so second best was using blanket stitch in my Bernette ^o^.

Pink and Lavender Quilt

Finally I did it!!. I'm so excited cos this is my biggest quilt so far. It measured 84" x 94". It takes rather long to finish cos I was not sure I can quilt such a big quilt in my home sewing machine =,=. 

So, here it is, my first custom order quilt: 

She wanted in Pink and Lavender. I  got the idea from one quilting magazine. It's basically a half log cabin block, I simply changed the arrangement of the blocks. 

Luckily, I got a matching lavender paisley fabric. It's lightweight cotton which become soft after washing. 

This time I learned that taping your fabric nicely really helps in making the quilting sandwich. It makes the pinning process easier. 

Since the quilt is quite big, I used a faux binding ^_^...yep, I bound the quilt from the excess of the backing fabric. It's quite tricky but I managed. I guess this is the best binding option if you're making a big quilt. Get a matching or contrast fabric and voila you'll get an interesting binding ^_*.  

There are few tutorials on the web, but mainly you only have to cut off the batting and trim the backing to  approx. 1"-1.5", folded twice  and bind your quilt. You can check THIS TUTORIAL by Rae

Quilting Bee

This one I made for Vidya, the queen bee of the month of September. I call it a tetris block. Let see if I can come up with something else. Since the queen bee doesn't give any specific instruction just it has to be MODERN with lots of NEGATIVE SPACE. So till the month is up, hopefully I'll be able to make something else.

This wonky log cabin I made 2 months back for Vidya. 

And this one is for Veena. 

This is my first time joining a quilting bee and I'm having a lot of fun making and learning new block every month. Currently I'm in 2 bees with Desi Quilters, the second one I join is called Sunny Bee. Quoting from the blog "The theme is the 'Sun' and all that it means to you. Its all about living life 'Sunny Side Up". So, yes, it's going to be a lot more FUN...

N more fabric

OK, now it's official...I'm a fabricaholic. I vowed to buy less fabric and yet when I saw these ones today at the market I just couldn't resist it  x_x

I simply love the prints and can't stop my self. My favorite is the pink one. Which one is yours?

36 Patch Fruity Orange Quilt

Yes, that's what I call this one. Its been a UFO for a year. I was hooked on Amanda Jean's blog with her easy to follow  QALs n then out of nowhere I decided to try this 36 patch QAL  . There was supposed to be a yellow blocks  too but I ran out of fabric so I just used these 2 colors.

It was fun to make...and to see I actually have the guts to piece all those blocks is still shock me even now...LOL. this is one of my first attemp on serious quilting. And the biggest so far. Do I sound proud?? Well..I do LOL..

Now, it's sitting pretty is my room waiting for the weather to get colder then I can snuggle up under this one ^^

Cathedaral Windows continues QAL # 3

This is the last one of Cathedral Windows QAL series at Desi Quilters. It's using traditional method which is my favorite because it really has a different charm when finished. Though the ironing part is a bit tidious (at least for me..LOL)..but I love the end result of this method. If you like to make one, hop over to Chumkie's blog to see the detail instruction.

and to assemble the cushion cover I use tutorial from  WARMTH IN THE NORTH which give a perfect finish for my cushion. Now, I'm thinking of making a big one with this and I can use up all my scrap for that...hmm....

Learning Cathedral Windows

I've been wanting to learn cathedral windows block but too scare to start until Chumkie who blogs at My Favorite Things  started a QAL in Desi Quilter's. It looks so complicated in the beginning but with Chumkie's clear instruction and see other's result, finally I managed to do it and had LOTS of FUN making them. 

The First CW QAL is Orange Peel Method.  It  is a bit tricky because you have to make it as round as possible. I made  cushion cover  with two colors, polkadots red and solid white. 

The Second one is using Flying Geese Method, which I like. I decided to use my Indonesian batik in 4 different colors for the foundation, and polkadots (again) for the window panes. And here's the result:

Tutorial: Let's make a headband

I love wearing this headband under my scarf. It holds my hair in place plus it's not slippery since it's made of cotton. This headband is very popular..even little girls love it, cos it's so comfortable to wear. 

Now, let's get down to business.

WHAT YOU NEED:

1. Rectangle fabric measuring 12" x 9"

2. Strip of fabric 2.5" x 11" 

3. 1/2" elastic : 5" 

HOW YOU DO IT:

1. Sew  0.5"  hem of the rectangle on both sides

2. Make a tube from the strip of fabric. Once the tube is ready, insert the elastic like the picture below:

3. Now, your covered elastic is ready. Put it in the middle of the rectangle (length wise) RIGHT side facing you. Pin in place

4. Make pleats and put it on top of the elastic with the edge/hem  ON TOP. Do the same with the other half.

5. Stitch in place. Double stitch if necessary.

6. Repeat STEPS 3, 4, 5 with the other side.

7. and YAY, you made it...now go and make few...it makes a nice gift too..;). Even my son loved it. He thought he looked like a rock star :P

Celebrating Independence Day

This is the way quilters celebrating Independence Day. And in my case, I have 2 Independence Day to celebrate, India and Indonesia. 

We at Desi Quilters are having August Challenge with the rules: (1)  Make a mini not bigger than 12"x12", using pieces not bigger than 1.5" finished (2) Colours to be used - saffron, white and green ONLY..Yes, the Indian Flag colours.

I was in the middle of busy Ramadan, but I just can't stay away from my sewing machine especially when I have this lovely block to try which I think will be perfect for the challenge. Yes, it's Great Granny from Bee in My Bonnet

So here's my entry for the August Challenge:

6.5" squares Coaster 

and the second one, today 17th August  is Indonesia's Independence Day. To celebrate it, today I first attempted making this coaster using foundation piecing. Which is TOUGH!! But I made it, though it's not as neat as I'd like it to be. The finish size is 4.5" squares. I should have tried something bigger than that -,-. 

So, here's the Red and White (Indonesian Flag colors) coaster:
