Let the music play

Few weeks back, the boys' piano teacher said that she loved the pencil pouch I made for the boys.
She didn't believe that I made that my self *ahem*
So I said I will make one for her

I guess fabric is like destiny. I admit that I collected fabric faster than I sew [any body with me?] >_<
but then you never know when ideas strike or when you're going to need certain print, right?
Just like this time

I decided to make with the black and white one and gave a red lining to match with the zipper
well, black and white and red never goes wrong ^_^

oh and she loved it!
What can be a better reward than someone who received your handmade with pure delight in their eyes? I'm blessed _/\_

As usual, I made few more but of different type

Boxy long pouch, which is perfect as amenity or toiletry bag

and another one is the triangle pouch.
The triangle pouch is good for keeping sewing or quilting tools, isn't it?

I didn't use any interfacing or stabilizer here

Instead I used flannel as batting and quilted it using decorative stitches.
oh I love using decorative stitches for quilting. it gives personality to the whole look of the quilt.

Flannel batting is my favorite, since it's easily available here. It's perfect for tote bags and runners.
It's light but give enough structure to the bag/quilt.

I tried using thin foam but I was not satisfied with the result plus it's rather difficult to sew. At least for me.

The pouches are available for purchase at my Etsy Shop

Fabric : Toko Chan

First Installment

Remember in my last post I showed you fabrics strips that I cut. In fact I cut a little bit more. I cut 6.5" strips and jelly rolls.

I wanted to do a quick strip quilt. And here what I ended up with

slim table runner!!
I quilt it in the ditch cos I just got this fancy foot for my new HV ^-*

the back is olive green. ❤

oh I did the binding using the flat felled foot based on THIS tutorial

I did a little  adjustment since Bernina and HV foot has a different width.

I still prefer handsewn binding for small quilt though
But sometimes I'm just not in the mood to do hand sewing, esp when there's no interesting K-drama to accompany me. Ha!!

By the way, RPQ has a good tips on binding on her Instagram. I just saw it today and I may give it a try on my next one.

if you want to purchase the runner it's available on my ETSY shop
or if you want the fabric, you can go to my FABRIC SHOP

Until next time

What inspired you?

Well, for me, when I'm not in the mood to sew, usually folding fabrics do the tricks, esp.during "that" time of the month when my mood usually at the lowest.

Last week, I've got my fabric stocks delivered for my Etsy shop but I was just not too excited about it. Until I took them out from the package. Ha!

For those who's not familiar with Indian cotton, you should really try this. This one is soft light weight cotton which is suitable for any projects.

whether you want soft love volume floral prints

or bright flowers

or an autumn warm colors

After a whole day of folding and photographing all those, I cut up few strips.
I have  lots of plans and ideas in my head.

Let's see what I will make out of these strips

Until then

Let's get some UFOs done

How many UFO projects do you have?
Me? Umm...more then a dozen, at least -_-
I have mostly small orphan blocks from trial and error. I think I am going to make a pot holder and dish mat with that.

OK, lemme start showing off now ^_*

These 2 table runners were  meant for a bigger quilt but I get distracted, besides I don't have enough space in the house to keep big quilts.

D Pink, blue and yellow looks very refreshing. Simple disappearing four patch which I did after watching video tutorial in MSQ youtube channel.
Hey, don't you love how Jenny makes quilting look so easy??!!

and I got a matching backing fabric

Second one is this yellow and blue pinwheel. I was obsessed with these two colors few months back ^v^ and cut a whole bunch. Since big quilt is off, now I can make more blue and yellow mini quilts.

I quilted using decorative stitched. I was going to do serpentine stitch but forgot to change the setting and started with straight line. I was too lazy to unpick it (who doesn't?) and decided to use 2 straight lines and 2 serpentines. and I LOVE how it turned out. Yay!

Enough rambling... now I'm off to watch my Kdrama ^^
Goodnight

Say it through your wallet...

a handmade fabric wallet that is ^v^

I have this cute fabric lying in my cupboard for over a year now. I bought it through a friend who lives in the US of A. We have this chat group on Whatsapp where we shares ideas, jokes and our fabric loot. But the shipping from US is killing me, but then there's nothing like a good investment (said a fabric hoaders of course). Ha!

Anyway, I bought few pattern of wallet and reading numerous blog post and finally settle for this simple wallet. I wanted something sturdy but light, compact, fit in my notes and few coins. And which will fit in into my purse.

Hmm...I'm using my old leather wallet as a benchmark for sizing. I made a little bigger and wider version, since Indian currency notes are quite long.

look at the outer fabric! I love love it!

I used two grommets snap buttons. Psst, it's not that hard to attach these buttons.

Since I don't like to waste fabric, I make wrist strap from the remaining binding fabric.

Well, I still have a little more of the fabric, enough for 2 wallets. Just go to my ETSY shop and grab it fast.

Until then,

Red Riding Hood Tote Bag

This is also a custom order from the Exotic Lady (that's her boutique's name) - the story in my previous post . She wanted a pink tote bag /diaper bag.

I have this red riding hood fabric from my trip last year which she chose. It has a drawstring closure which is very convenient for diapers bag.

I match it with a dark grey cotton. I used interfacing and batting for this bag and it's perfect. It's sturdy and soft.

a wide box bottom give it enough space to carry baby's stuff around.

polkadots is always my favorite lining. it gives a happy aura ..or is it just me ^_^

and of course my fave hexies has to be there. I spy Red Riding Hood hexies ^_^

Elephant quilts

There was a little handmade shop in my town run by a very talented lady. She has a bakery and a handmade baby stuff  shop. The shop though small is very beautifully decorated. She made baby dresses, mostly for newborn to about 2-3 years old baby.
I often visited the shop but never met her. And in one evening when I dropped by to pick up some pastries, I went inside her little shop and met her. We talked and I showed her the pictures of what I've been doing. Well, long story short, she liked my handmade stuff and ordered few stuff for her daughter who's expecting a baby. Her daughter likes elephants and I happen to have this pretty elephant fabrics which will be perfect for her. I mixed and matched it with stripes and dots.

She wanted a summer quilt. We discuss all the possibilities and we decided to put a layer of solid cotton as a batting, instead of the usual batting and use mulmul cotton at the back.

this quilt is perfect for spring or summer. I quilted in the ditch around the squares.

I still have more fabrics and if you want the same quilt I'd be glad to make a custom order for you. Simply for to my shop in ETSY

For the fabrics you can get from the following shops:

Indian Mulmul/cotton fabrics : Chezvies Fabrics
Cute printed cottons : Moymoik Fabrics

Back to Quilt ~ for a baby boy

It's done!

A friend of mine was expecting a baby boy and  few months ago she asked me to make a tote bag for her using Indian cotton fabrics.

I've been busy making passport wallets for the past few months and enjoyed it tremendously.

And here's what I came up with

peacock blue and dark grey combo

The bag has a drawstring closure. I was thinking of using zippers but as diaper bags drawstring seems to be more versatile since you can fit in more stuff without worrying about the zippers.

With the bag I made a matching mini quilt.

it's 30" x 30" which is perfect for new born.
It's meant for spring/summer weather so I used flannel batting. It turned out very soft.

one more shot

I've been using flannel batting for few quilts that I made and I like it, esp for my kind of weather which is quite humid during the summer.
It's a perfect covering in AC room during the summer months ^v^ .

If you need the fabric, you can visit my shop or contact me in my FACEBOOK .
I'd be glad you hear from you.

Until then...

First Post of 2014 - A very hungry Caterpillar quilt

Oh.my.God ...I haven't been blogging for a loooooong time! Well, I mostly post my work on my facebook page or my Instagram.

The last few months I've been busy with my Etsy shop, taking few orders for passport wallets, tunic, quilts etc. It's been quite a busy months for me.

Few months back, I was doing this very hungry caterpillar quilt for one customer. Panel quilt seems easy to do, but it's quite tricky if you don't plan properly. Or maybe it's just me ^^.

front side

I always need to draw the quilts I am going to make with detail measurements of the block's size.

There was few ripping moments while I was doing this one. It's really a learning experience for me.

back side
It was really fun doing it and I'm happy that she liked the quilt too!

Until Then...
