Reversible and Foldable Fabric Storage Bin

Hello,

Fabric storage bin is a great way to get your home organized. There are plenty tutorials you can find in Pinterest. This week, in between finishing my wallet orders, I made these fabric bins based on Japanese book I bought last year. 

 I always love browsing (and buying) Japanese books and magazines. They make simple things look so pretty! Nowadays, everything you can find online. And with pinterest, you can just pin stuff you love for ideas. But I find, books and magazines are still the best! In the sense, that we can easily go back to it, and read every details. Mark which project you'd love to do in the future.

We can slowly enjoy the book, while sipping our mid morning tea, without being distracted by "More like this" pictures ^_^.

Just like these storage bins, I was having my mid morning tea and picked up a couple of Japanese books. I needed storage boxes but the idea of buying plastic storage bins is out of the question. Because in the future when I don't need it anymore, it will be difficult to store them, right?

I've been looking and watching lots of tutorials on fabric bins on the net, but when I see this particular one in the book, I felt so inspired that I got down to work immediately. 

Crochet Wool Storage

I decided to use denim, black and blue denim, which I had in my stash. Since denim is already thick, I put the interfacing only on the contrast fabrics. These storage bins are meant to be reversible so I chose some fun fabrics.

DVD Storage

The size is perfect to hold books, DVDs, or even craft supplies. I want to make more of these, maybe will try out a different sizes depends on my needs. I also added these storage bins for custom orders in my webshop .

Foxy Passport Wallet with curvy edges and Konmari Updates

Hello,

How's your week going on? My week's been pretty busy but in between I went to spa and pamper myself. The Marie Kondo book "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up"  has arrived and I'm currently reading it. I will finish the book and will plan my "konmari" move ^_^.  So far in my sewing room, I already put all my tools and hardwares in one corner. Arranging the fabric stash would be the tough part. I am thinking of destashing fabrics which does not spark joy anymore. In the meantime, I finished this wallet yesterday. This is another take on my Passport Wallet pattern. I had this fox fabric for a while and I thought it will be a fun travel wallet.

I combined it with  brown polka dots fabric. I always come up with one idea and I usually improvise as I go along. As I was cutting interfacing for the flap, I decided to make a curvy flap. It looked really good and I loved it.

And then as I was going to the binding part, I was in two minds- curvy edges or straight edges. I thought making bias binding was too much of work. But I wanted curvy edges, so I stopped working and went about doing other chores. 

In the evening I went back to my sewing table and decided let's make the bias! And it's so worth it!!

Upon reading Marie Kondo Books, I realized that, doing or keeping something that truly "spark joy" give us an immense happiness and satisfaction. With all the  instant updates we always see in social media, sometimes as a handmade maker, we feel rushed. We jumped to the rat race and forget to enjoy the process. If you've been thinking for decluttering your space (and life), you might love to read the book.. Yes I know, I've been thinking along the same line too "why do I need to learn to tidy up?" but after reading the book, there are a few things I learn, like "putting things away created the illusion that the clutter problem has been solved".  That definetely sound like me LOL.

Sunday Stash 13 - New Instagram

Hello,

I hope you are having a relaxing Sunday. My Sunday started with a visit to the doctor to consult about my allergy. Last Sunday we went and he told me to be a vegetarian for a week. Well, I did , except one day when I went to visit DH's aunt and I gobbled paratha and chicken korma. Changing is tough! ^_^. The good news is everything is OK {Alhamdulillah} and with the meds , hopefully I will be fine in a month {Insha Allah}.

What about this new instagram? I mentioned in my previous post about @chezviesfabs. 

The idea was to make it easier for me and my customers to see what fabric options they have when they want to order wallets and bags. All this time, I have an album set up in my google photos, but since everyone is on Instagram, I think this will be a better platform. 

I already uploaded a couple of fabrics and will keep on updating it everyday. All in the information regarding the fabric is written under each photo. 

I also added polka dots and stripes, as I love to use them as accent and binding. 

I hope this way, it is easier for the buyers to see and they can also mix and match the fabrics themselves.

Back to school with handmade pouch

Hello,

I'm back from the summer break in Indonesia. I apologize I could not visit and reply all the comments from my last post since I had to rush. I thought of replying and reading all the post during the holiday, but it just didn't happen. 

Now I'm back in the sultry weather of Indian summer. The past few days I was busy with tidying up my home after I read about Konmari method (go and google it :D ). You may have heard, read or saw her post all over social media. I get the drift from what I read on the blog and saw on Youtube so I decided to buy her book. I'm still waiting for it to arrive, so I will tell you about it (hopefully) in my next post!

Multi Zipper Pouch

In the middle of the chaos I created, I managed to finished 4 multi zipper pouches, which 2 of them are orders. The opportunity came at the right time, just when I was thinking to sew a few pouches for stock. I was looking and considering a few options. When she DM me on Instagram, she wanted a pouch with multiple compartments and this style is just perfect.

Snoopy Denim Pouch

I always love to work with new prints. I especially love the snoopy fabrics. I recently got quite a few snoopy prints from my trip to Indonesia just because they are just too cute to pass! Like this snoopy back to school print. Isn't it too cute?

I really love this colorful hearts print. This was the first multi zip pouch that I made. The pouch dimension is 8" W x 6.5" H which is so spacious! You can fit in lots of things in there.

TGIFF - How to Make Quilted Sling Bag

Hello and welcome to TGIFF!

This week, I'm sharing a tutorial for foldover sling bag. 

A few weeks ago, hubby's aunt came and she said her morning walk friend wanted a sling bag like the one I made for her. It's a simple foldable sling bag with elastic closure. Very light and handy.

So, here is what you need:

- Assorted of fabrics for exterior and lining

- batting (you can use fleece, flannel or cotton)

- Fusible lightweight interfacing (skip this if you are using fusible batting)

- Elastic cord or hair band

- Large Button

- Grosgrain ribbon

- Woven Interfacing Strip

- Swivel hook 0.5"

Measurement and cut

- Exterior Fabric :

   Top Panels  8" W x 3" H - cut 2

   Bottom Panel 8" W x 8.5" H- Cut 2

- Interfacing : 8" W x 22" H - Cut 1

- Lining Fabric : 8" W x 22" H - cut 1

- Batting  : 9" W x 23" H - Cut 1

- 0.5"Wide Ribbon  : 2" Long - cut 2

- Strap Fabric : 2" W x 44" H  - cut 1

- Woven Interfacing Strip 1" x 43 - cut 1

*RST - Right Side Together

Let's sew :

1. Sew the top and bottom panel together  on the 8" side (RST) with 3/8" seam allowance.

2. Sew the bottom of both exterior panel together (RST) using 3/8" seam allowance. You will get a long piece of exterior panel 8" W x 22" H.

3. Fuse the interfacing on the wrong side of the exterior panel and then place the it on the batting Right Side Up  and pin generously. The pins will prevent the fabric from shifting while you quilt it. Quilt as desired. Once you finished with the quilting, trim the excess batting.

I'm not very fond of free motion quilting, so I always use my walking foot. I quilted my bag using organic wavy lines approximately 0.5" apart.  Walking foot is just awesome! It goes through layers effortlessly like this bag and this bag.

4. Fold and attach the ribbons on the longer sides of exterior panel. Place it on the bottom panel part, just under the stitching line between the top and bottom part.

5 . Fold the elastic cord and make a knot. Center it on one of the exterior panel top edge. Top stitch with 1/8" Seam allowance. Run a couple stitch and back stitch to secure it.

6. Put the lining  and exterior  panels RST and sew the short edges (top) together with 3/8" seam allowance. Repeat with the other short edge.

7. Turn the bag inside out , pull the lining away from the exterior. Press the seam towards the exterior side and top stitch with 1/8" Seam Allowance.

It should look like the picture below.

On the wrong side , it should look like the picture below. 

Do not cut the knot.

8. Now pull out the lining and exterior panels separately, so that they are on opposite side. Match the top seam and secure it with wonder clips. 

9. Sew the longer side starting from the exterior panel with 3/8" seam allowance. Repeat with the other long side, but leave a gap around 4" or so for turning. Don't forget to back stitch at the beginning and end .

10. Diagonally cut the corners and turn the bag inside out through the opening, iron it and sew the opening closed.

Make the strap:

1. Center and fuse the interfacing on the wrong side of the strap fabric. You can opt out for the interfacing if using thicker fabric. Since I was using thin linen, I use  1" woven interfacing strip.
2. Fold it lengthwise and press to create a middle crease. Open the fold. (DIAGRAM A)
3. Fold in both short ends by 1/2” and fold both raw edges lengthwise towards the middle crease. (DIAGRAM B)
4.Press and fold it in half lengthwise again. Top stitch on both long edges with 1/8” seam allowance. (DIAGRAM C)

5. Install the swivel hooks on both ends of the straps and stitch the strap to secure it.



6. Sew fancy wooden button on the front of the bag. Fold top of the bag and mark the placement as you desired. And it’s done!! Yay!!
