Quilted Passport Wallet 

Finally I dig into my Tula Pink fabric stash and decided to make a couple of wallets. I bought the fabrics a couple of years ago and I always waited for the "perfect" project to make. But now I decided to stop waiting. Just took out a couple of fabrics, choosing combos and get on with the project! But choosing fabric combos are always the hardest part. So this time I get Chatgpt involved. And using the suggestion to make the wallet and I LOVE how they turned out! 

 

I must admit, I used a lot of helps from AI (Chatgpt, Copilot and Gemini) to help me writing my Etsy product listing, and some more.  

By now I think these AI know my business better than myself! Like when I posted my fabric and asking for combo, it gave me several options depend on what VIBES (!) I want to create and what colors are now popular in Etsy. It's like consulting the Gen Z for free.

I think AI is very good for us, boomers, gen x and millennial generation, who try to make a little bit of side hustle online but are clumsy with words, struggling to understand what SEO, and especially if you do everything on your own from scratch. By the time we sit at the computer after creating products and taking photos, our brain is tired. This is where the AI comes in handy. We just need to write the prompt and they will do it for us, with minimal editing needed. Win-win!

A few wallets

 Hello,

Last week, I was pretty productive. I made a couple of wallets for orders and also finished 2 wallets from my WIP bucket! It feels good to be able to finish a few from the WIP list. 

This pink strawberry wallet is one of my best sellers! There's a Blue and Red one too in the shop. I love making this Nuno Small Wallet and is still my fave wallet to use for everyday, and I made one for my son too!

I love this wonderland fabric from Rifle Paper Co. Well, I love all their fabrics and purchased a few fabrics before the pandemic,  but now it's too expensive to buy because the shipping charge is pretty high. Anyway, I recorded the video when I was making this Wonderland wallet. I am still editing it now and hopefully will be able to share it soon! Pattern available HERE.

When making a wallet, choosing the fabric combo always takes a long time for me. Sometimes, I even end up using a different combo than what I initially picked. 

(I had fun making the BTS video below!) 

The second WIP I finished was this Red Floral Wallet. The fabric is from Sevenberry and I love the tiny floral print. This time, I used metal zipper and I love how this turned out. Also for the zipper end, I used the metal zipper end cap. I kinda love it although putting the tiny screw on the cap was a bit hard for me! I need to get the small screw driver!

Earlier this week, I went to the Post Office with Meenakshi, from Rustic Origin. We thought we'll check the latest update regarding sending parcel via India Post. It was totally waste of time because the person in charge in the main Guwahati PO were not interested or not willing to help.  So we deciced to go hang out for a bit at the Starbucks at the Brahmaputra Heritage Center. It's good we decided to go there because the view is so good. I think during sunset would be lovely!

After chilling out in Starbucks we went back to the PO and I still could not send my parcels. I decided to go the the University PO near my house, instead. The lady at the PO is very nice and seems to be well informed, and very helpful. Finally all my packages were on their way.

Weekends Update

I've been working on this wallet for a few days. It's super easy one but  life happens. First, my crown broke and had to spend my birthday at the dentist. Well at least I am getting something new for the birthday, right? 😄😄 

I'm super tickled when I saw the chicken print. It's too cute!! 

And my next project is all set, Insha Allah will start tomorrow. Stay tuned for new bag pattern from Bagstock!! Yes, I'm testing for Namrata's next pattern! I know you're going to love it. I am so excited to try out this vinyl after I made the origami pouch for fun! 

Sometimes, we really need to make time to learn and try new things right? And guess what? I am subscribing to SimplyPiano app on my phone and teaching my self to play piano 😄😄😄 I will update you with my progress. I am having fun practicing these few days!! 

Speaking about piano, my son's music school is closing it's door after 7 years. The above photo was yesterday, the last day we went to Ace Music! What a journey it was. Thank you everyone at Ace Music for your hard work all these years !! But the good news is he will still continue learning with Ms. Promiti Phukan in her new brand music academy, Cadenza  from April, after he finishes his board exam. Cheers to new journey! 

That's all my little update. Do not hesitate to pursue your passion. When there's a will, there's a way! 

Now, I'm going to hand sew my wallet and watching Notting Hill on Prime Video!

New small bifold wallet

I finished this small bi fold wallet yesterday. I kind love it! I was supposed to work on a custom order but when I saw the fabric suddenly got this idea to make a small wallet! 

I am currently using it to see how it will hold up. I do that a lot with my products. I already noted a few things that I need to work on before I start making a few for the shop.

During the Ramadan, I don't sew so much. But I love to sew in between all the activities that's going on. I also bought new fabrics!! We went to shop for Eid last Sunday. We supposed to buy kurta pyjama for hubby and the boys when hubby decided to stop at Linen Club shop! The shop has been on my list to visit for a long time. Although I passed the shop every week, but I never stopped. Well, everything happens at its own time, right?!

The shop has all kind of linens!! and it's expensive LOL. I asked the shop keeper if I can buy half meter cuts. In few fabric shops here, they have a minimum cut. When he said yes I quickly picked up a few.

That's all my story for this week! I'll be busy making cookies for Eid in the next few days :D

Double Zip Wallet Video Clip

Yesterday I tried to made short video clip using my Sony A5100 for the first time. I usually used my trusted OnePlus 3 phone to take videos but using a proper camera is really different. 

I recorded the video is AVCHD format which later on I learned that it will create a huge size of file. I searched on YouTube and learned how to convert it to MP4 file. Bless those people who shares important tutorials!! That's one of the first thing I learned this year. Now my camera is set on MP4 and it will be easier to transfer videos directly to my phone!

If you're an online seller, you must have heard that Video is going to be the IN thing this year when it comes to SEO. If you have not started already, you might want to teach yourself to create short clips of your products. There are many apps in App Store and Play Store you can try and experimenting! Cricket & Women Bifold Wallets

Hello December!

The last few weeks I was quite busy. The boys were having inter school cricket match one after the other. The elder one's under 16 Team won runner up trophy, while the younger one's under 13 Team came up 4th. A good performance for 1st timer on a competitive match! It was a huge learning experience for the younger team . We are very proud of them!

On creative side, I'd like to thank all of you who came and purchased few items during the Cyber Week Sale! 

I'm still working on few orders right now and added two bifold wallets in the shop. I really had fun making these wallets. 

Green Bifold Wallet

I'm a huge fan of Riley Blake fabrics and collected quite a few. Most of them I bought from Etsy and some from my trip to Seoul. This green wallet was from the FQ bundle

I really love the cute fox and owl print. FQ bundle works best when we get stuck in mix matching! The polkadot don't come from the bundle though. The wallet is rather spacious with 6 card slots and zipper pocket. It can fit in your phone too!! 

Sewing Theme Wallet

The second one is this sewing theme wallet. Sewing or quilting theme is another print that I tend to purchase more. I was browsing my fabric stash and saw the fabrics which I got from my trip to Indonesia. 

Taking photo of these two were rather challenging. Somehow I could not get the best shot! Maybe I will try again when I get a good natural lights. December is always a bit cloudy here. 

I have few more wallets cut and ready to sew and also have a couple of quilting projects that I need to finish! 

Meanwhile, the boys are having unit test until next week. Wish us luck!!

Women's Bifold Wallet - Floral Series

Hello,

Just pop in for a little shop updates! If you follow me in Instagram, you probably have seen my latest wallet collections. I've been making bifold wallets almost everyday in between working on Passport holder orders.

I'm currently finished 3 out of 6 wallets that I am planning to make. The floral fabrics are just too pretty to just sitting in my cupboard, right?

Here are the three wallets that I have completed:

The purple floral wallet with gingham binding! Frankly, I am so in love with this one, esp the gingham bias binding. You can check my previous post for making Bias Binding.

And I have a matching zipper too!! 

The second one is this peach bifold wallet. The background color is so pretty, I was in two minds whether to use teal blue combination or peach, and decided to do the latter. 

Maybe I will use teal blue or green combination next time!

And here is the Floral Pink Wallet. The powder pink polkadot looks very lovely. I've been saving the fabric for the right project! And this women's wallet is just perfect!

These pretty wallets are slightly wider than the previous wallet, so that it can double up as travel wallet or phone wallet. 

I used medium weight woven interfacing and a stiff poly batting which is a great combination. It's study yet soft to hold. These bifold wallets will be a great gift for your loved ones!

Mini Tutorial - How to make bias binding strip for wallets

Hello,

Today I will share a little tutorial on how to make your own bias binding. If you follow my blog, I love using binding for all my wallets. Though sometimes, I tried to make one without binding like this wallet. 

Bias binding strip is a narrow strip of fabric cut diagonally (on bias). There are many tutorials and video tutorials on how to make a continuous bias binding, but I prefer the good old slow method. The extra minutes of making this binding will be so worth it!

Ok, in this tutorial I used a square fabric 10" x 10" which is sufficient to make binding for single wallet. Bias binding effect is best if you use gingham or stripe fabrics.

First, make sure that your fabric's grain is straight. If not, do straighten your fabric first. This is very important!

Now fold the fabric diagonally 

and then fold it again (upwards) to create a small triangle shape

 Then using the quilting ruler and rotary cutter, cut the first strip 0.75" wide. That will make a 1.5" Wide binding strip. 

 Then cut the next strip 1.5" Wide. Continue cutting until there's small triangle left. I normally do not use the smallest strip but I keep the leftover triangles for scrap projects. 

Now, take the first strip that you cut and straighten the end of the binding strip.

Take the second strip, lay the triangle end on top of the straight one, RIGHT SIDE TOGETHER and overlap  by 1/4" . 

Sew diagonally with 1/4" seam allowance and trim. 

Take the next strip and lay the triangle like in the picture below (right side together) and overlap by 1/4" and sew with 1/4" seam allowance.

The strip will look like in the picture below and ready to be sewn into the wallet!

I really love how this gingham binding look on this Purple Flower wallet! 

See, it's super easy! It may seem like a lot of work, but this method will always yield a perfect bias strips! Don't be afraid, go ahead and try it and let me know how do you like it!
