Patchwork Wallets with Keyring

patchwork quilted wallets

Hello,

Last week I had a quite productive week. After a long time, I made a small batch of patchwork wallets. This time I used the Rosie Wallet pattern. Since the wallet is pretty small (the finished size is 4" x 5"), I use skinny strips of fabric. I cut the fabrics between 1" to 1.5" wide.

It started with a message on my Etsy shop that she wanted pink and green patchwork Rosie Wallets. She said she loves floral prints. So I started working on the order making the patchwork panels first. And of course, I cannot stop making just one wallet, right?

Making patchwork wallets is always fun. From sorting out the scrap fabrics to choosing the best combination and binding.
I happen to have pink floral scrap bundles that I bought from Indonesia. So from those, I choose a few for the card slots.

This time I used polycotton batting 180 gsm which is pretty sturdy so I did not use lightweight interfacing on the patchwork panels like the previous patchwork wallets.  If using low-loft cotton batting, I'd suggest using lightweight interfacing before quilting it.

This time, I also did hand quilting in 2 wallets and in one wallet I did machine quilting. For the hand quilting I used pearl cotton thread no 8 and I really love how it turned out.

Deciding which binding to use is also another fun part. My go-to choice for binding is either polka dots or stripes. But this time, I decided to try floral binding too and I think it's turned out pretty great.

Rosie wallet is a versatile wallet. I carry it often as it fits perfectly in my small crossbody bag. It can hold quite a few cards (6-10 cards) and the 2-in-1 zipper pocket is handy to keep small changes or items. As we mostly use mobile payment, for me personally carrying a small wallet is very convenient.

I plan to make more patchwork wallets in the future. I need to seriously use my overwhelming scraps and of course my stash! I have a few ideas in my head, so hopefully I'll be able to share another Scrapbuster video tutorial soon!.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Have a nice day,

Scrappy Patchwork Pouch

Few weeks ago I made few scrappy log cabin blocks and share it in my Instagram. I was cleaning my sewing room and sorting out my scraps and instead of finish my cleaning, I sat down and started making a few blocks.

I really really love scrappy blocks and log cabin is just the easiest. The no rule log cabin blocks!  Since I completed my log cabin quilt I really want to make another one.

These blocks are 6.5 x 6.5 inches and I really don't have any particular plan. So a few days ago, I made this pouch. Simple flat pouch.

I added a scrap denim which I have in my blue scrap bucket. I love using lightweight fusible interfacing and batting for quilted pouch. They are a perfect combo if you don't have fusible batting. I used fleece batting here. Really, you can use any batting like foam, flannel or even your old fleece blanket. Re-purpose or up cycle is always a good idea!

I used metal zipper this time. I really love the look of it. You can check my IGTV where I show you how to install metal zipper pull. Once you learn the technique, you will love it!

I made a time lapse video :) I really want to make a proper tutorial video but it needs a lot of preparations and set up. Hopefully later on I can start sharing a better videos. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this one. (don't forget to share and subscribe :D )
The pouch size is 6" x 8" which is a really great size. Just big enough to carry your phone and few stuff.

Thank you for stopping by.

Happy Sewing!

Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt

I started this scrappy log cabin quilt last year after I organized my scraps in buckets. When this does not really make a dent to my scrap baskets but I'm super thrilled to finished this one just before the trip to Japan last January. My friend and me, we decided to take at least one quilt this time too. Last year I took the small log cabin quilt :D

Last January I only had 6 blocks completed. The block size is approx 12 x 12 inches and totally made from scraps.

This was my "just having fun" kind of quilt. I cut the scraps into 1.5" strips and using sew and cut method. Almost like quilt as you go method without the quilting part.

The fabrics were of all kind of weight, as long as the color match! I did not follow any rule and I kind of loving this process.

I pieced and quilted using my Jack sewing machine. I decided to just do wonky lines quilting ehmm it's called organic lines, right? And I loved the result! and so are my family and friends :D

And here's my quilt hanging on the tree trunk at Inokashira Park! It was a nice sunny day when we decided to take the quilts out and find a good place to take photos :D. Yeah, we're crazy like that! Many morning walkers were glancing/looking and smile at us :D .

And another shot at Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
I still have a lot of scraps. I've cut a few in different sizes and have a couple of ideas. Let's see I hope I can create something bigger than this scrappy log cabin!
Thank you for stopping by & spend time reading my blog!

have a nice day!

Scrappy 9 Patch Pillow

Hello,

I mentioned in my previous post about the #100dayproject that is going on in Instagram. I decided to play along and sewing up my scraps, UFOs, and PHDs.
It feels so rewarding when I able to complete something that has been in my UFOs box. Like these Pillows I made last week.

This week, quilty wise I finished this modern 16 x 16 inches scrappy 9 patch cushion cover.

Scrappy Patchwork Pillow
I have a small jar of 2" squares which I collected for quite sometimes. I made a couple of 9 patch blocks from them. Some of them, I turned it into mug rugs for a swap.  And a few coasters which I gave them away.

So last week, I decided to make a dent to my 2" jar and started piecing them into 9 patches, while watching my kdramas. Luckily there are so many good korean dramas to keep me company.

Work in Progress

This patchwork top is totally made of scraps, right down to the black and white stripe borders, which came from my wallet binding scraps. I add sashing to the 9 patched and added long border. I really love this black and white stripe. I will need to get a few yards next time when I go to Indonesia. I used it alot for wallet. When nothing else work, black and white stripe always the solution!

I am using fleece batting for this pillow which I got from Tina of the Square Inch. Quilting it using straight line quilting on my jack sewing machine while watching Love in the Moonlight drama. I know, it's an old one (2016 drama) and I don't usually enjoy period drama, but Park Bo-Gum and Kim Yoo-jung are just too cute together.

The back of the cushion cover is a colorful floral cotton fabric. I'm glad I saved up the last piece of this fabric, it matched perfectly.

Envelope Closure

This pillow will make a cute decorative pillow in the living room or a baby room. I added this cushion in my Etsy Shop and also in my Indian WebShop. There are still many scraps I need to sew and I am so excited to sew smaller projects like this.

Meanwhile, I made a small progress with the scrappy log cabin. I finished 3 color blocks so far. I hope I will be able to add one or two color blocks this weekends.

Until next time,

Happy Sewing

Scrappy Log Cabin - WIP

Hello,

Last night I was catching up on Bonnie Hunter's Quilt Cam on Youtube. It's my fave "pick me up" channel. You know when you feel so low and uninspired. Today was one of those day.

As I started watching, I took out my scrap bags which I sorted in colors. I picked up yellow bag and black & white one.

I was thinking of doing the 100 days scrap vortex that is going on in Instagram based on Amanda's QAL in 2015.  I took out a couple of scraps, iron them and decided to do  log cabin block. Color and Black & White. I was not in the mood for random block.

I started with 2" centre piece and 1.25" strip. Since I was too lazy to cut the strips, I just went along and trimmed the strip to 1" after I sewed them together. That way I can work faster.

Most of the scraps were from my bags and wallets project. And some from dresses and quilts I did a few years ago. Sometimes, I felt bad that I keep so many small scraps but I just could not throw them away. After I watched one of Bonnie's quilt cam episode where she said, one of the scrap she was sewing (that day) was from 28 years ago, I know I did the right thing!! That video made my day! LOL.

Anyway,  I love how the blocks turned out and thought of doing a couple more blocks using different colors, like red, blue, green, orange, etc. That would be fun, right? I think I'm going to go ahead and do 100 days of logcabin. What say?

How do I store my scrap? I use buckets that I got free from buying detergents. Yes they give buckets here in India :D. We get at least 3 buckets per month. So they come handy for me. Last week made covers for those buckets, based on bowl cover tutorials I found on YouTube.

To make the pattern, all you need is the diameter of your bucket add roughly 3" and make a circle template based on that measurement. I followed THIS TUTORIAL . It's super duper easy! I keep my WIP projects in a clear resealable plastic bags and keep them in those buckets. Now I need to put label on them.

Thanks for stopping by,
Until then,

Happy Sewing
