VIDEO TUTORIAL - making scrappy mini pouch

 

Hello,

Working with scraps is always satisfying. I made these mini pouches using scrap from my wallets and other bigger projects. These mini pouches are really quick and easy to make. They also make a great gift for your family and friends. 

Blue Patchwork Pouch

The finished size is about 5" x 3.5" (13 x 8.5 cm). Just perfect for carrying small items, like chapstick, lipstick, small change or even AirPods and a phone charger. 

Here's the material you need: 

Templates - 6" W x 4.5" H (15.5 W x 11.5 H CM)

The box corners - 1" x 1" (2.5 x 2.5 cm)

Fabric strips in various widths 1" ~ 1.5" wide (2.5 ~ 4 cm) X  5.5" long (14 cm ) 

(the strip should be enough to make 2 patchwork panels measure 7" x 5.5" (18 x 14 cm)

Lining Fabric ( cut 2)  : 6" W x 4.5" H (15.5 W x 11.5 H cm)

Lightweight interfacing ( cut 2) 7" x 5.5" (18 x 14 cm)

Scrap Batting ( cut 2) 

All-purpose zipper #3 - 6" long  (you can use scrap zipper) 

0.5" D-ring 

D-ring tab - 2" x 2" (5 x 5 cm)

Keyring (optional)

Double Zip Pouches and New Video

Hello, 

I made a few double zippers pouches a few months ago and record a video as well, but somehow the editing got shelved. However, this morning, I woke up with the idea of finishing the editing work! 

Since I got my new iPad 10 a few months ago, I prefer to edit my videos on my iPad. My favorite is the InShot app. I've been using the app for years. I wasn't able to use InShot on my previous iPad Air since it was no longer compatible, but with my new device, I can continue to use this app for all my video editing needs. What is your fave editing app? 

So yeah, now the video is live on my Youtube Channel. In the video, I scaled down the pattern a little bit. I used the doitrei pattern and reduce the height by 1/2 inch. It turned out pretty cute and just perfect for a wallet and even holds my iPhone 11. You can add tabs on both sides and turn the pouch into a hipster bag or mini sling bag! 

This pouch is very easy to sew especially for beginners who want to learn to sew with a zipper. I use quilting cotton fabric and all-purpose woven interfacing. The interfacing is only applied on the exterior pieces. You can always use it on both the exterior and lining if you want a more structured pouch or add batting on the exterior piece.

Bag Interfacing and new videos

The past few weeks passed very quickly! I have a couple of videos up on my YouTube channel and the most recent one is about bag interfacing for bag making in India. I also finally upload the video for the zippered tissue pouch and made a couple of small pouches for gifts. These pouches are very handy and useful. I always carry one in my bag to store lipstick and tissues, and also a few emergency medicines (I have allergies) and even sanitary napkins.  You can make these pouches using scrap fabrics and it really doesn't take much, plus they make pretty small gifts, especially now the festive season is coming. VIDEO: Making an Adjustable Handle

Hello,

Today I shared a short video for making an adjustable strap with a buckle for the mobile sling bag. This may look easy but for those who just started their journey in bag making, this can be a bit confusing.

In the video, I am making 3/4" wide strap with patchwork. The length of the strap can be varied, between 50" to 55" inches. If you're making it for kids, 50" should be long enough. 

Here's what you need to make the long strap: 

 * 2.75" W X 50" - 55" inches long fabric 

 * if making patchwork strap: 2.75" W x Wof (44") plus 2 - 2.75" W x 7" Long accent fabrics 

 * All-purpose interfacing: cut 1 - 2.75” W x 49” or 54” 

* If using interfacing roll: cut 2 – 1.25” W x 49” or 54” 

*  2 x 0.75" swivel hooks 

* 1 x 0.75" Buckle

First, if making a patchwork strap, sew the accent fabrics on each end of the main fabric. Then fuse the interfacing on the wrong side of the strap piece.

This mobile sling bag is my fave project to go. I am using one regularly too when I go out also use it to store my hard disc and power bank. It's super versatile. Today I made one using this pretty bird print fabric that I have in my stash.

On the home front, not much sewing happened last week, except finishing a few wallet orders. Instead, I was busy trying out a few recipes I found on Youtube. I've been craving lemon tart after I watched one Cdrama. We used to have a few shops selling in my town before the pandemic but I am not sure now. I decided to look up the recipes on Youtube and the result is yummy! Well, I am not much of a baker, when this turned out good (my boys approved), I feel good.

VIDEO TUTORIAL - SAFARI TRAVEL WALLET

Safari Travel Wallet Video

Hello, 

Finally, the video tutorial for the Safari Travel Wallet is up on my YouTube Channel. I hope the video can help to visualize how to make the wallet from the beginning. I am trying to get a better angle as I recorded the video and also try not to skip the process. The video is sped up  2 to 3 times from the original. If you want to watch it at a slower speed, you can do so by clicking the setting on your YouTube screen.  

The original pattern only has instructions for flap closure which is pretty easy, but as many customers like zip-around closure more, I decided to make the video for the zip-around version. If anyone wants to see the flap closure version, I will record one when I make my next wallet. Do let me know in the comment.

I really enjoy recording the video and I really hope to share more sewing tutorials in the future. If you heard some funny noise in between the videos, that's because my son was watching a football match, or sometimes, someone came and asked something in the middle of the recording. Maybe I should put a sign like "recording in progress, do not disturb" LOL

Video Tutorial How to Sew Spacious 3D Face Mask

Sometimes we run too fast and think too little ~ To Dear Myself (CDrama)

Finally, I finished a couple of Trio 3D Face Masks. Don't you love these rose print masks? I got the fabric from Indonesia and I made a couple of wallets with it, you can see them HERE.

This mask is now fave with everyone. My SIL loved it cos it's not fogging her spectacles so much. That's an added bonus. I put up a video on how to put this 3D Face Mask together. I hope the video will help those who need to see a clearer picture.

I quite enjoyed making the video, but the editing part it a bit tiring. My son said to do voice over, I need to learn that. Trust me even a simple video tutorial needs a lot of retakes and editing. I have to keep several masks ready to sew, incase I mess up :D. 

Since Etsy is introducing video features, I've been learning to take a short video (15 seconds max) that is quite informative for the customer. It is really a challenge but it's fun to learn new things. In the beginning, I was not sure if 15 seconds are enough to show your products, but now I really enjoy creating it. It's good for my Instagram Reels too. If you observe all these video features on social media, people can be really creative within those 15 seconds. 

You might find people complaining, but for me, instead of complaining why not use the time to learn. If others can do it, we can also do it.

Before Etsy introducing this new feature, I used to post videos on my Youtube Channel under Product Review and post the link on my Etsy Listing description. It helps to a certain extent especially for first buyers who are not sure about my products. Like this short video, I make to show how to adjust the elastic cord on the mask. 

Another thing I'm busy with nowadays are attending webinars conducted by Etsy India. Our seller support group on Facebook is quite active and informative. This online community is really great, even for seasoned sellers. There's always something new I learn. Truly, if you want to keep doing what you do, you have to keep learning, be observant, and do your own research in your own niche.  There's no short cut to success. You gotta do the hard work, be it researching your SEO, retaking your product photos, redoing your listing, etc.

Video Tutorial - Mini Zipper Pouches

Hello,

The past few weeks I've been working on my website. The progress is a slow but I guess it's getting better. I added Video Category, where I attached some of product reviews and short tutorials from my YouTube channel. The idea is to help shoppers by giving them visual references, before they decided to make the purchase. 

Anyway, while I was cutting my scraps into usable squares, I got this idea to make mini zipper pouches. I had this plan in my mind for a long time and finally the opportunity present itself. I love to take many photos and sometimes videos when I am working on a project. Then I decided why not filming the making of this cute pouch! So here's the tutorial, I hope you enjoy it!

and this is the product review of the mini pouches . 

The pouch is so cute and very useful. You can use it practically to store any small stuff that you want to keep it secure or organizing your purse without being bulky, like earphone, chapstick, lipstick, transport card and money, etc.

I can say, taking video is alright but editing etc need a good mood and patience :D but I enjoy the process, so hopefully, I can share more useful easy video tutorial with you.
